I'm converting my cuda from power to manual steering. I was looking into one of the u joint style couplers to replace the factory coupler to help tighten up the steering and to gain header clearance. Do they make any of the u joint style couplers that don't require the factory steering shaft to be cut? I know some people don't like the idea of these since they don't allow any movement in the steering to compensate for body flex, but I've read many reviews from people that have these installed that have said that they don't have any issues. Also, if I was to install one of these, is the power to manual adapter still needed?

To install an aftermarket steering U joint, you are likely going to have o cut your original shaft. All of the aftermarket joints I've seen connect to the steering box and then directly to a female round, splined, or double "D" shaft and you can't get to any of those choices with a bare shaft end on original Mopar steering that I remember without cutting the shaft.
Now, to be honest, I haven't looked at the steering u joint options for a few years, maybe someone makes something now.

Just glanced around www.borgeson.com they have a joint for 62-82 Mopar cars with a vibration dampener, says you have to cut your steering shaft.

1969 B-body here. I didn't cut my steering shaft. I did find a joint with the proper splines for the manual box (adapter) and the correct diameter female-round on the top side. I left the roll pin in the steering column shaft and cut two U-shaped notches in the new u-joint to slide over the factory roll pin. I then welded. I also used a power to manual adapter. This was 15 years ago. I removed it last year and installed a Borgeson. The adapter is still available from several sites.

I used this part from Rick, and it was a fast, easy fix. I got a bunch of other parts from him as well.

Thanks, I already bought the power to manual adapter. I'm just undecided on the u joint conversion. I'm not to crazy about the fact of having to cut the shaft.
