I like woodpeckers and there’s no free electricity on top of poles, the ground runs on top & hot wire way below, fake to the hilt. Change that, power on top, ground below. And I know better, righting instead of thinking

Real or not? Many years ago while living in an apartment we had what sounded like a shotgun blast go off right outside, which coincided with the electricity going out. It was a squirrel that crossed the wrong wires on an adjacent power pole, and he had a nickel-sized hole through him to prove it. High voltage, used improperly, is a MFer.

I worked for a telephone company in SO CA in the western Mojave Desert, in or near 1984 or maybe the next year 1985 in late June or early July, I had pulled into our central office yard around lunch time and heard a loud popping sound as I walked towards the side door of the building where my office was, our standby generator started at the same time and I look up where I heard the noises coming from and saw a bunch of sparks shooting out of the fuses on the power transformer going to the feed wires to our building, it popped a bunch of times sounding just like a 12 gauge shotgun going off and each time it pop it threw out a lot of spark that looked exactly like exploding silver fireworks on the 4 of July but it was bright sunshine day in the desert. It turned out we had upgraded and added enough additional equipment in that office due to a lot of growth in that service area and we had overloaded that transformer which ended up blowing out those fuses. The power company came out right away and replace the transformer with a larger one and double the feed wires to our office, no more problems after that Luckily none of the sparks cause any ground fires or set the pole and transformer on fire, that is one of those experiences you never forget. Electricity kills people every year, be careful working around it please.

Those woodpeckers are destructive pests like termites
They destroy power and telephone poles. They’ll ruin one in just a few years. Squirrels and woodpeckers both raise hell on both power and telephone networks, I've seen both dig into and eat lead covered telephone cable as well as make a pole unsafe due to making nests in them like they do in trees I had one squirrel scare the holy beholy out of me while I was on a pole belted off and working and that little turd came hauling down the opposite of the pole until it got to my safety belt and climbed around it towards me and stopped, I whack him off my belt with my bare hand before thinking Scare me bad He landed in a tree and ran off making all kinds of chirping and squealing noises, better him than me

He came up the pole just below me and cussed me out in squirrel talk and ran off.
