Are the old Fischer dampers similar to, or the same as, Innovators West ?

It’s been a long time since I’ve seen a Fischer damper, but my memory is they are very similar. If if was building anything that was turning less than 8500 I’d use nothing but the IW or a FD. Both designs have a much broader damping range, and both become less effective at RPM higher than that. If you are up that high in RPM then you’d want some sort of elastomeric damper. Good look getting one tuned for your application though.

Just because you think it won't make it true. Horsepower is KING. To dispute this is stupid. C. Alston

Thanks Mad,
I have several old Fischers, but I forget which crank hub they have. I think the crank hub is a separate "adapter" piece.

Tuning an elastomeric dampener...........now there's an interesting topic, frequency and amplitude of vibration.
You could modify the mass in the ring, but I don't know how you could obtain the different elastomer properties.

A crude method by Carroll Smith, used successfully in a very different application (chassis), is to:
Soften by drilling small holes (radially symmetrical) parallel to the crank
Harden by driving drill rod or wire brads same way

No idea as to effect except as a general trend

Poly,
"Soften" vs "Harden " ?
Carroll Smith sounds familiar, I can't remember where.
