I “could” go racing this weekend…. but I’m pre-entered into the March Meet and that would give me 10 days to make the car race ready if something happened (I know…. pretty stupid). It’s also a non refundable entry…. In 19 I pre-entered for MaTS. Three weeks before that I go to a race at sea level and decimated my car with a wheel stand. Somehow in that time we got the car stripped down, hauled 2hrs to Vegas where Al’s son Steven got the car bent back straight, picked it up from there, and drug the ole reliable iron head Bracket Betty out and made it to the race (W8 mill suffered damage). It seems like some of these events love to take your money, but are blind when it comes to a refund. I’d like to return to Irwindale, but it seems all there events are “pre-entry”….

I pre-enter 3-4 big money races a year with the first being in June. Entry for it opens in March. I was sick most of last year so I easily sold off two entries worth 800.00. (600.00 and 200.00 deposit on a 495.00 entry). Big money races are easy to sell if you can’t go. Both of these races were limited entry races and sold out.

I don't I would rather pay at the gate especially if the weather is iffy. The only thing I pre-enter is Carlisle as I show my truck there and race it at a nearby track during the event. It might be beneficial to pre-enter races because they often offer a discount if entered early but as I said I would rather pay when I show up. Another thing to remember... when booking hotel rooms out of state and doing it online the cheaper rates advertised often can't be canceled ... read the fine print! You have to make sure that the rate you book at can be canceled. usually up to a day of so in advance. Years ago I booked a room at a Holiday Inn Express near Keystone / Pittsburgh Raceway as I was attending Mopar race there the weather forecast was wet and I didn't want to make the six hour tow, when I went to cancel the room I was told I would be charged for the room and that it was non refundable luckily my credit card got me the refund.

Nope. Weather is too big of a factor. Add in , I'm not sure the car will even be running at that time... It's a hobby. I don't like the pressure that I HAVE to go to the track.

To many things can come up with family or weather or parts breaking. Since Covid hit it's not like you can just over night parts and have your car up and running the next day like you could before unless you have a spare parts sitting at home. Most events that are pre-enter don't seem to want to give any refunds if you pre-enter. The big $ races that have limited number of entries are fairly easy to sell off your entry if something comes up before hand.

I do like to pre enter as to show support for what ever event I plan to attend but it has not worked out well for me lately.

I think Irwindale adapoted using the FOAT for pre entry to control the number of entrants from Covid "restricitons". I believe they have kept it as it makes the process easier for them. FWIW we had no issue last March when the car never made a pass getting a refund. I think many venues went to the FOAT will stay that way. It seems NMCA is not going back. NHRA uses both now for divisionals, all nationals are pre entry only with a quota. I think using things like the FOAT gives the a better handle on what is going to happen count wise. But the smart money will still take gate entries like NHRA and the Flings have done.

Just double entered the Twin $10K races at 41 May 20-22. 1 Box and 1 No-Box. Since I finally don't work weekends anymore maybe I'll actually get a few hits in before the event. boogie

It's only worth it if you're saving considerably money to go. Like you said, they're easy to take it, difficult to get it back. Having $xx,xxx, sometimes more, in your hand as a promoter is a zero interest loan they can use for temporary investment purposes. That's all fine unless you aren't saving to pre enter or if their refund policy isnt posted.
