I have this pulley I'm trying to install. It's a Holley power steering kit for a 3G motor.
First attempt was a total failure, wouldn't go on, and then it got cocked and gouged the powder coat on the pulley.
I've now measured the power steering shaft (steel) and it's 0.668" and the aluminum pulley is 0.660".
Is this normal, or is the powder coat too thick? It's circular, so that's 0.004" around the complete diameter to overcome.

What are you using to install the pulley? Pictures help?

Using a HF pulley install tool, watched a bunch of YouTube videos, seems pretty straightforward.
But this thing will just not seat, wondering if 0.008" is too much to overcome?

.008” is way too much interference fit. Just for reference, an ATI super damper (harmonic bal) specs at .0008” to crank. In my opinion, there should not be any powdercoat on the inside pulley to shaft surface.

Call Holley. They may want a tighter fit being an aluminum pulley. Steel would be more like .002. What HF tool are you using?

I’m going to have to hit the inside of the pulley with some sandpaper to clean up the gouge.
Just don’t want to take off too much.
Here’s the tool, seems simple enough, thread in the stud, then crank down the nut to pull the pump onto the pulley.

Here’s where the shaft gouged off the powered coating.
But only on 1 side, as it went on crooked.

Lightly clean the hole. Put a light lube on the shaft and pulley. Start pulling it on and tap it to center it with a rubber mallet as you pull it on. It should center itself.

Thx for the replies, I did put some lithium grease on shaft and pulley on initial attempt.
I’ll try to carefully clean up the pulley bore with some 600 grit and give it another go........

Cleaned off most of the powder coating with a Dremel tool and gave it another go.
Inside diameter interference is now ~0.004”
It was a mutha to pull on, but it’s done.
Appreciate the help

You're all done & good but I was thinking of freezing the pump overnight in the freezer & heating the pulley in the oven.

At this point in history, I'm not sure where something was made makes much difference. Quality control just doesn't exist many places any more.

that finish looks more like anodizing, not powder coating. Normally threaded holes and press fit holes get masked when powder coated. It's typically not necessary when anodizing.

It was definitely made in China.
It was on back order from Holley for 4 months. Other than the pulley issue, looks to be very well made.
No idea if it's powder coating or anodized, but that area definitely should have been taped off.
I didn't get all of it off and it was a chore to pull that pulley on.
I hope the pump never goes bad, I'm thinking its not coming back off.
