Wondering if I could trade for and A12 Bee, or a REALLY nicely done clone. I have always wanted a A12 bee, thats been my dream car since high school way to many years ago.
I have a 68 Charger R/T. Wondering if you guys think putting it out there for trade is realistic, or just asking for a bunch of aggravation lol.
What I want to trade, 1968 Charger R/T. Car has numbers matching engine, Body is mint, paint is very very nice. No rust, trim and all chrome is perfect.
The bad stuff,
was Green car now white
now 4sp
8 3/4 is now dana
just installed Qa1 shocks and upper control arms, torque rods, tie rods (kept the originals all rebuilt)
New center force dual friction clutch.
The carb is Barry grant750 with no choke, drives me crazy with warm up.
has the fiberglass hood with six pack scoop, but I have the original painted to match car.
speedometer is about 10 mph off.
radio only picks up static.
The good,
body is insanely solid, no dings, chips, rust, gaps are beautiful
trim and all chrome is perfect.
drives like a dream.
I really want an A12 but don't want to put it out there on Facebook and places like that to listen through 500 people telling me Im dreaming lol.
just want to know if I'm dreaming or you guys think I'm being fair on my end.
Any way thanks for reading my ramble.
Just a couple pics to show some of the trim.

The Charger market is insane right now. I think you might find someone to deal with you. If not throw it on ebay with a crazy reserve and watch...

Market-wise, sounds plausible.
Simpler way is to sell the Charger first, for several reasons:
Wider audience than a trade scenario
Cash in hand is better for negotiating
Logistics almost certainly apply, and trading or buying without inspecting beforehand is VERY risky.

Correctly restored A12 and your modified Charger R/T appeal to two different markets. While the value may be there to make a trade plausible I am not sure a trade is likely. The type of person that has a correct A12 is probably not looking for a modified anything. Also, at any given time there are few of either on the market further limiting trade opportunities.

sell your charger first !
as already been said, that market is INSANE, and has been for quite a while, with no real signs of slowing down.
then go shopping for an A12 car.
even with the modifications you have done to your car, i believe that will make absolutely NO difference in what you can sell it for.
if you kept the swapped out parts, offer them with the car.
your car looks like a very nice example with the few pics you have posted. you shouldn't have any problems selling it.
i have had several stupid offers for my car over the years, and it is no way near close to the condition your car is in.
i have had mine since 1970, so i guess it will be around for a few more years. biggrin

Agree on the sell your car vs trying to trade.

A12 cars don't come up for sale that much (?), so you may have to be patient for the right one to appear.

This should be doable dollar wise. It might be an older resto or a slightly scuffed driver you get for the same coin, but it’s not a total mismatch. It sounds like you have a very nice car that will fetch good money.

If you are afraid of selling and not having a car for a spell, finance one, then sell. You can get the best car for you and the charger will bring good money. Try eBay with high reserve as a test for what to expect.

You could be pleasantly surprised at the trade market just as well. No cost to try that. It just will run the risk of yokels and lookyloo types, but it won’t take long to figure out who is who. Good luck.

I want my fair share

Thanks for the input. Just having hard time putting it up for sale. But some good insight on the difficulties of working trade deals. maybe I'll take it to the myrtle beach show in march and see whats there. Thanks again everybody for your thoughts.

If you go the "take it to a show" route then you really need to consider the Carlisle Chrysler Nationals in July, there will be a huge contingent of Mopar people and they have a great car corral. Advertise that you are going to do that and what you are looking for and it might just pay off... twocents

That's a nice show. Also Mopars at the Rock in Rockingham in April. That's a great Mopar show.

Why are you having a hard time? If you are serious you need to put it out there and ask the moon. You can always come down. Now you have cash in hand and can find the car you want. Never swap cars, or labor.

Two people trading cars they both want is a long shot. it can sometimes work on a three way deal but the whole thing gets complicated. I have a friend that would be interested in your charger possibly and I have a friend who pass recently who had a 69 A12 clone. It is well done and he had a ton of money in the car. I’m trying to help his widow sell some of his cars. Pm if you are interested. I have pictures of the Bee.

also, if buying, and the vehicle in question is a distance from you that you can't personally inspect, make DADGUM SURE you have a person you can TRUST to inspect the vehicle and give you an HONEST EVALUATION !
the only other recourse is to pay the money and fly out to check it yourself. that money spent, even if you don't buy the vehicle in question, will be well spent in the long run.
just an old guy's perspective, playing with cars since birth, and in the big boy's game playing with full size versions for almost 60yrs.
