So I was dropping the 360 into the PowerWagon, and of course...had to break something. Snapped the oil dipstick tube right off at the block. Nothing to grab with pliers. Was thinking a screw extractor? Maybe put a large screw into it and try and pull it? I don't want metal shavings in my oil pan...obviously. Any tricks to get this thing out?

I have pulled the oil pan and tapped them out with a pin punch when trying to extract in from the top did not work.

If you are able to get decent thread established, a long bolt with a slightly larger spacer if positioned correctly will pull it straight up
Another method I have had some success with is to collapse the tube with a small punch until you can grab onto it and pull it out. Or a left handed Drill bit with grease to grab the chips will sometimes bite enough to spin it out.
The screw extractor will likely expand the tube wink

The only way I have had good success with is to use a stock SB pushrod and drive the broken part out from the bottom on BB, Hemi and SB motors hammer up

Tried to get a good tap into it, my handle is too short, even after pulling the fuel pump. Looks like I need to get an extender....

Ez-out will only aggravate the problem as the tube is a slight press fit to begin with, tapping a tread and inserting a bolt in the broken tube is the usual course to avoid pulling the pan, I usually use a metric tap/bolt to pull busted dipstick tubes smblk or BBlk, sometimes just the bite of a tap will lock on and spin the tube end out, after tapping a tread, use a hex head bolt and drift it up from below using the head of the bolt to drift on......

One of these may help, TAP HANDLE LINKY
they are also on Amazon.
I have 8 point sockets that work well with extensions.
Another idea would be to weld a bolt to the end of a tap so you can use a regular socket wink
keep us posted

Will it get sucked up into the pickup screen ? Probably not. Will it cause a major restriction? I don't think so. Knock it through with a pin punch or a push rod like cab said and install a new one. I have found worse stuff in oil pans from perfectly good running engines twocents

Your suggestion made me think that doing so, one may be able to fish the piece with a small flexible Magnet, or a larger more powerful magnet on the bottom of the pan should grab the piece and allow one to pull it over to the DP opening wink
Myself, I'd either try the tap first or collapsing the side as previously suggested. Both have worked well for me over the years

The last one I did I screwed a screw into it and tapped it out using a screw driver as a punch from under the car. Took longer to figure out what screw to use than do the job.

The thought of intentionally putting a piece of metal into my oilpan scares the crap out of me. I got a good tap into it, and it would not budge. Grabbed the tap with vice grips and it it with both a hammer and a pry bar, and its not cooperating at all. I am afraid an extractor will just get lodge in there and expand against the block. I think I will try another tap, and find a correct threaded screw as suggested....this had to happen AFTER the motor was back in...I guess I should have just intended to replace it in the first place and punched it out when the block was on the engine stand. Live and learn I guess...

Okay.....its out! I took a bolt that was threaded similar to my tap, used my cordless impact to get a good bite into it, clamped the vice grips on, and used a crowbar to apply pressure...and it came flying out...nice and clean. Whew...that set me back a bit on firing this thing up. Thanks for all the suggestions. I think a combination of all of them did the trick. My next plan was to blow it out with dynamite and buy a different truck....:)

I would say if this idea is attempted, try, if your feeling lucky, to fish a thin wire (like TiG copper filler rod) thru the broken oil dip stick and out the drain plug, and if successful, punch the broken tube into the pan, put a small"hook" on the dip stick end of the wire, and carefully extract the wire and broken tube thru the oil plug hole....?????????
