Use an air hose to blow through the fuel line from the pump back to the gas tank. Get someone to help so you can crawl under the car and listen for air. Lots of these old cars have rotten rubber fuel lines attaching to the sending unit in the tank. If the line checks out you probably have a bad fuel pump. New parts do not mean working parts anymore unfortunately.

BTW you can use the gauge for bench testing as well. As far as a new pushrod goes I'd look for NOS or do some serious research as I've had several new ones fail, some claimed. indestructible made from unobtanium whistling

As far as travel goes, if someone had a BB camshaft they could measure the lobe height, subtract the OD of the lobe and you would have the travel. Ideally measuring the lift it in a block or lathe would be more accurate. That would give you an indication of how much wear on the pushrod might be tolerable beer

I worked on a friends truck a few years ago that had dual tanks and he thought it was stuck in between tanks. I couldn't find anything wrong so I got a can of gas and put the inlet hose into can which proved it was the pump even though it was new. Took 3 new pumps before I got 1 that worked.

did i mention to check the tank vent ? take the gas cap off, then see if the pump works. if it does, the cap or the vent system needs looked at.

This is exactly what happened to me, pump would not work not matter what I tried.
Finally found a cracked rubber hose feeding the steel line and all was well after that.

Ok, wanted to get back to youse guys that provided info. Had 2 problems going on. 1 purchased another fuel rod that measured 3.24" 2. hose from tank to gas line was soft and weepy (FYI-second time I had to replace this hose; my theory is ethanol laced gas is playing hell with the rubber). Replaced hose; installed new pump rod and new pump (for those that asked Summit was supplier of pump), and vroom car started. As stated, wanted to let youse know car ran. Seems people come on here asking for advice, but seldom report back on findings.

up for the feedback as most don't frown
Also the Newer fuel hose and pump should be ethanol compatible. Might want to change the other fuel hoses as well if you haven't already beer
