First snowfall of the season in the Chitcago area, it will always amaze me that people lose their minds when they see a flake or two. The drive to me shop is and hour and a half on normal days, almost two hours tonight. mad Why must EVERYONE drive non-capable vehicles 10 mph under the speed limit? I CANNOT WAIT to move out of the nort next year, at least down south there are less days like this... runaway

Now out here in west Teas we don't get the rain Houston does, nor the snow the north does. We do get both, but when it snows around here they just shut things down for the day or two it takes for it to melt, February notwithstanding.

This was my back yard last week. We've had another 30cm since then and more coming on the weekend.
I'm *lucky* if I can use my toys 6 months out of the year. I've had my Mustang for 6 years and it's barely got 25,000 miles on it. Of course, the last 2 years of nowhere to go have also kinda helped keep the mileage down. But, I'm just kinda done with it all. Had 2020 not gone sideways, I had an appointment with an immigration lawyer. If this scamdemic finally comes to an end in 2022, I may re-make that appointment and start getting my ducks in a row.

2+ feet of snow and -20°C for 4 to 6 months out of the year is really just a waste of life. I haven't got a whole lot of time left, so it's time to start livin'.

Around here it's the opposite, people trying to drive on snow covered roads as if it was 70 degrees. If you go to the nearest large city (Bismarck) right after the first good snow, you'll see heaps of red, amber, and clear plastic debris everywhere on the roads. The first couple of days are like bumper cars. That learning curve has to be followed every year. Never fails.

Black ice is a bigger problem here in East Tennessee. Snow not an issue here. The few times it does snow just wait a few hours and it’s all melted.

At least around here we have the equipment to deal with winter weather. I’m no fan of what salt does to cars but it keeps the roads safe. And thousands of plows out working to clear the snow.
I was in Charlotte NC working one summer and my colleagues who lived there told me when they get an inch of snow it shuts down the whole area until it melts.
I remember seeing on the news a few winters back Atlanta got knocked out by a winter storm.
We rarely get ice storms here either, they are more common down south. In 30 years my power was knocked out once by an ice storm for a few days and that was around ‘95.

Agreed. I travel all over the country & have NEVER seen as many bad, idiot, hostile drivers, as I do in Michigan. WORST stretch of highway is US 23 between Brighton & Ann Arbor at rush hour. There's at least one wreck every day either North or South. You simply cannot keep distance from someone. Last night it had been snowing a little - just enough to resurface the roads - with a Zamboni! I went to pick my daughter up from work at 6:30 & I could tell the road was icy - not just snowy. Touch the brakes & you GLIDE. Safest speed 35 max - MAYBE! Well, there were idiots humming along at 55 - on a 2-lane road thinking it was just wet, if even wondering at all. Some people just don't think at all when driving!

And to 99% of the people driving they just DON'T UNDERSTAND that driving is the most dangerous thing they ever do in their lives! 1% of us have very dangerous jobs, things that could kill you any minute, and we learn how to stay alive. The desk jockey's may get a paper cut, might spill their hot coffee, or slip on the floor at the office. They really DON'T get it that they are driving a 4K lb missle! hammer

Understand completely. I retired on 30 September 2007. I was on my way out of Michigan heading to my new home in Tennessee on 1 October 2007. I only visit family in Michigan between 1 April and 1 November. If it wasn’t for family I’d never go back to Michigan.

I'm thinking about moving to TN. myself. I have a good friend that moved to Chattanooga a couple years ago - his wife transferred. They relocated because of her job to Bradenton, FL. about 7 years ago, then to TN. They love it in TN. The weather sounds awesome & it looks like a nice area.

East Tennessee is great. I’m in Dandridge about 30 miles north east of Gatlinburg. Chattanooga is a great are also. Only a hundred miles from me.

I don’t know how you guys deal with the harsh winters, give me sun and warmth. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a nice place to visit, but I wouldn’t want to live there wave

It's a dry heat
I pulled the trigger the summer of 2018 .
relocated from northern KY to southern AZ . And the ONLY regret I have is I miss family and friends ,,,,but NOT the weather by any means

It will get cold here . Maybe have a few weeks where it might dip down in the 30s at nite. But by noon the next day its 50-60s and usually SUNNY

I can get the Satellite out pretty much year round .

I grew up in NW Indiana. I left when I was 18, in 1983, and I do not miss the weather there at all, except maybe on Christmas day where having a fresh blanket of snow covering everything just seems right but on the 26th it better be gone, lol.
