This may get clobbered by the moderators but I have to find a way to broaden my search. I'm trying to locate a part for my '36 Plymouth Coupe. I'm looking nationally using Google, Ebay, etc.. What would be helpful is if somebody knows of a salvage yard near them that carries parts for the really old cars. Maybe a private message would get to me. Whatever help i can get is appreciated.

Body parts show up from time to time, but there tends to be a long time between when they show up. There used to be a few places that offered some body parts, but most of those sites have owners that have retired over the last 5-10 years. Your best chance on finding body parts would likely be in the central north west areas, Montana, Idaho, North & South Dakota, maybe Minnesota.
Sites that deal with 30s cars will give you a better chance of finding parts then you will here, The HAMB board could be a good shot, they have a classified sale area with a lot of volume, just don't look for "rat rod" parts, no one will help.

Mechanical parts are easier to find, several places are having mechanical parts repoped.

The way you word your thread, sort of tells me your looking for body parts, Be bold, state exactly what you are looking for and you stand a better chance of finding it. If I had one or two 36 Plymouth parts laying around, I would not answer an add looking for 36 Plymouth parts, assuming I wouldn't have what you are looking for. The next thing, NOS or mint body parts probably don't exist for pre 60 Mopars, if they do, they are very rare and very expensive. Good luck with your search. Gene

Gene, Because I thought it might run afoul of the moderators, I deliberately didn't identify the part. What I'm looking for is a rear bumper for a 1936 Plymouth Business coupe (P1). I figured if I asked for a list of yards that were known for the older cars, it would narrow my search. Thanks for your suggestions

Have you talked with French Lake?

http://www.frenchlakeautoparts.com

They say they have parts cars going back to the 20's, got a core 230 out of a 52 Dodge for my build.

there was a guy in South Dakota named Moore. I restored a 40 Plymouth and bought stuff from him, He shipped to my place in Ohio. I don't have a number any more. He advertised in Hemmings. Birdtracker

Moores auto salvage in Rapid City Sd, he has alot of pre 70's stuff. He used to have some cool old Dodge Brothers vehicles there as well.

Try googling "search tempest". You can put in what you are searching for, a radius how far from your zip code, and it goes through all the Craigslists in that radius, then lists what matches you search.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I did try them all, but I finally found what I needed. One of the salvage yards I called, though they didn't have a bumper, referred me to someone they thought might have one. They said to call AMS Obsolete in Georgia. I did and they said they might have what i wanted but they would have to look. I gave them the dimensions of the bumper i needed along with a picture of the old (unusable) bumper I had. They had one. I ordered it on the 10th and got it today on the 16th. Pretty good service I'd say. The individual that I worked with was Anthony. He was easy to deal with, pleasant, and kept his word. I'd do business with them again.
Now there's this; I think it is an incarnation of one of Frank Mitchell's shops.. There are some on this board that don't hold him in the highest regard. He passed away about 7 years ago, so I don't know how or if that has any influence on what the current owner and staff does or believes today. All I can say is, they did right by me. They seem like a good place to try.

I got an NOS backup light switch for my 51 Plymouth from them, zero issues, quick service, reasonable price.
