Me, personally... 14.0 at 101 MPH in a '69 Super Bee 383 4-speed... back in either '79 or '80. Hey, you asked! Likely my favorite 383 car ever: Dave Boertman's '71 Challenger SS car. It was a mid-to-high 10-sec car with an "interesting" backstory as described HERE.

What oil pumps were being used for these 7,500+ rpm combos? How loose on the bearings? Presuming these faster times were roller cam/tunnel ram/open header combos with 5K+ 8" converters and 5.xx gears... Almost forgot that just recently I finished helping my friend build a 383 stroker (438"). It's a pretty mild street cruiser combo. OOTB 440 Source heads, about 9.3:1 C.R., 228/232 @ .050" hydraulic FT cam, RPM intake, headers, 750 carb. Made just under 450 hp and 450+ lb. ft. of torque. It did rev to 6,000 rpm though which is more than I can say for the heap in my own car. Combo is going in a '66 Fury with highway gears and regular tires. Won't be raced but maybe it might go in the 13's on slicks. 383/438 On the dyno For B Bodies Only

10.01 @ 133mph with a 250 shot of nitrous an a splash of race gas. 1.36 60 ft. 3,700 lbs.

There was a fantastic 383ci engine article in an old Mopar book, ''Musclecar and Hi-Po engines'' Chrysler themselves got Victor Edelbrock to do a 'Hotrod' article on a NEW factory 383ci engine in 1967! They had been hearing of ‘bad press’ for the 335hp ‘383ci’ so 'MOTHER MOPAR' wanted to put the record straight lol. On the Dyno, a brand new low mileage 383ci made only 280 horses...  So with lots of machine work and the right camshaft, they got it up to 420 horses.  The article does not say which heads were used 516 or 915 (440) heads? The biggest problem being was 'factory over-tight' clearances. ''Freeing the horsepower'' was just more piston to wall and bearing gaps, worth 100hp...  My car, Duster @ 3000 pounds and me at 180 ran 118, the Wallace calc says 400 Hp. 030 over pop up TRW slugs, stock bottom end, .509 cam, 915 stock heads (triple springs), isky rockers, Torker intake, 3310 Holly, Hooker headers, 4.88 gears 11.5X 29.5 M&H slicks and street Hemi converter. A little port work in the heads and I’m sure it would have run faster

I think I remember Dave Wren running in the 9.80s back a long time ago with his 1971 Cuda 383 SS/I car in the mid 1970s  If I'm remembering correctly he let the clutch out at 8800 RPM and shifted it around 8200 RPM   That motor was a unbored 400 block given to him by the Mopar factory drag engineers that they had built and flogged a bunch on the dyno before giving it to him to race to outrun the 350 Chevy in that class: devil: You mean 10.80s? The record minimum today is 10.05...

NHRA will reset the SS and Stock records to a minimum after they had been the record for two years, at least they use to do that.  I'm pretty sure about the numbers Dave Wren ran with that car Mopar gave him that motor for, Bob Mazzolini ran almost that quick with his 1971 SS/IA 383 Cuda a bunch of years later in another Mopar prep body in white car from Portland, it was trick also  CRS on remembering the original owners of that car, they had several Dodge and Plymouth dealerships in the Portland area back in the late1960 and early 1970, Italian last name: 
Mr.Cab Racing and winning with Mopars since 1964. (Old F--t, Huh)

That car ran in SS/I, not SS/IA. Dave Boertman SS/JA 1971 Challenger was a lot slower than Wrens 1971 Cuda was Dave was thrown out of the Indy Nationals two years later running that quick and fast after winning the class in teardown in either 1974 or 1975 , the wheelbase was 1/8 inch to short  He was one of many sportsman racers sponsored by Mopar in the NHRA sportsman classes before they went BK in 1980 due to the unfair weight advantage NHRA had given to the Chevy Pro Sttock racers racing against the Hemi cars in 1973.  I remember the SS/A and SS/AA cars running in the mid to low nines in the 1974 Winternataionals.

Year, 1970. US hywy 2 west of Grand Forks ND. Observed 5750 on my tach, converted to 138mph. 1968Coronet, 4spd. Stock motor, 3.23 gears. Handled loose as a goose!

Chrysler told the A cars to not bomb the record so the little guys in their class have a chance, more cars more publicity. Most fast cars sandbagged to a point but I don’t recall ever seeing/hearing any Chrysler product run a second under the record. I know of a few Chrysler products that won class by running out the backdoor and ended up bombing the record, but no where did they run more than a tenth or two under. Was directly involved in all the Chrysler “activities” from around 67 to 80. Pretty much knew what cars were sandbagging and which ones were bogus. Some “heroes” won SS back in the day that should have been tossed but even they didn’t run a second under the record either. And the other thing to use as a benchmark. A similar car in a differentiations Eliminator like MP. 1975 - A/MP 68 Dart at 426 @ 3400 lbs. Tunnel ram, ported aluminum heads, ran 9.45 @ 145-148 mph. How would a SS legal SS/A car go that fast the same year with “legal” heads and a crossram.?

Super Stock race at the beach in 69 or 70 the A cars were running 10.60s-80s and the best 65 A990 Plym 4 speed went 11.07. Sam P. had a 69 GTX Hemi 4 speed convertible running 11.50s. We thought they were flying. No door slammer got close to the nines

I saw Doug Duell at Beech Bend this year working out a 383 they had in the Hemi Cuda. I think it was running GT/GA which I believe is a 10.40 index so I’m pretty sure its in the 9’s.
