There’s a guy on here who built one similar, Brian Carpenter, Galloping Ghost. I’m sure he has plenty of info he would share

Stockers are way cool. And can be a lot more complex than meets the eye.

If the results don't match the theory, change the theory.

I raced a 1963 Plymouth 415 HP Max Wedge Belvedere in NHRA Stock in Division 7 and at many national events from 1974 to 1988 with no air cleaners and later with just the bases of the air cleaner (that made it run .02 o .040 quicker) with no issues in tech or racing it shruggy
Many internet myths out here down
OP, are you thinking of one of the other sanctioning organizations?

You can run aftermarket units like K&N has also. But I heard a while back that fancy, aerodynamic contoured units are not allowed. You can sometimes pick some of the different air cleaners (or just bases) being run in NHRA staging lane photos that pop up on the net.

Hey Mike, I don't think air cleaners are very high on nhra's radar, but if they were to look, a highly modified base or lid might catch their eye.............

AIR CLEANERS
Optional. If used, air cleaner must be OEM automotive or retain
OEM configuration. Air-cleaner base may be cut or trimmed,
but welding, bolting, riveting, epoxying, or any other form of
fabrication is prohibited. Ram tubes, velocity stacks, or non-stocktype
base plates or ducting prohibited. Cooling holes prohibited in
radiator side panels, etc. Factory air cleaners and/or scoops that
fit through hood must be affixed to carburetor as per OEM only

Is that you Brian? It’s been awhile. Years ago I went to Vegas to look at a 64 Plymouth B/S auto. John Irving who was selling the car had a Demon with the scoops that worked, we talked about the air cleaner and he said they would only allow the stock cleaner, factory set up or nothing, I guess it keeps the others from being to inventive. Might have changed by now since they’re so relaxed in the tech today. Didn’t get the Plym couldn’t get together with him. One of Vigs old cars.

Mike, yeah, time flies. I'd guess most stock class racers don't run the stock air cleaner assembly ,but who knows.....

Good luck with that with the fast cars. "no, you can't look under my hood, not today"
