I feel the same way about the 71. I watch the Adam-12 reruns occasionally and once in a while I see Malloy and Reed's sargeant/captain pull up in the 71 and I tell my wife how I would like to have that car. Her response is always puke laugh2

The TQ's and Q-jets made pretty good noise on those at WOT. Maybe not the deep guttural sound of a TQ on a 440 at WOT, but really not bad. I remember oh so long ago hearing two NY Troopers at full song with one of those. We heard them coming well before we saw them. up

Glad you didn't say 'least' or I'd have to block you too........... biggrin
Haha nooooo. Love the wagons, and yes the '85 and up M bodies got the Quadrajet but definitely hear them comin'!

I know this is concerning the old Police cars, but the last few comments were concerning the sound of the Police cars under full throttle, so...
I live about a block off the last intersection going out of town on a State highway with an empty parking lot between my place and the highway. That highway intersects a city by pass about a mile out of town. As such, much of the emergency response vehicles heading out of town are under wide open throttle as they go past my place.

Without a doubt, those modern Hemi power Police vehicles sound as good and maybe better then the squad cars of the past. Though they sound as good, and probably run better, they sure don't have the class of the old squad cars. Gene

Very cool ads. Love that wagon..
Here is a CHP Polara, very original and multiple trophy winner.
The owner is local here in Upstate NY.. a central figure in the classic cop car community, attends lots of Law Enforcement activities, etc...
Cheers,

The modern Hemi does sound sooo wonderful under WOT, no doubt. The feel and the sound are absolutely wonderful. But I guess memories and especially ones from childhood always hold a special place. Seeing and hearing a Mopar squad at WOT as a kid that couldn't drive yet but already was in love with Ma Mopar is an unreplaceable memory.

Beautiful car Art!! Thanks for sharing.

That Polara........ drool Wow!

My twocents on the 'sound' thing.......

Back in the late '60's, early '70's, aside from 'muscle cars' and maybe a few imports, there wasn't much out and about that was truly fast. The squads of old had an intimidation factor to them too only bolstered by 'the sound'. They carried presence. Now, things are kinda reversed. Where there were few fast cars before, now there are few truly slow cars. A new minivan is probably quicker than a majority of the pedestrian small block cars running around back then. Sure the new Hemi squad sounds good and does just about everything better than an old squad, but there's no presence, no intimidation factor. It's basically 'just' another fast new car. The speeds cars can achieve now with the AC cranked was unheard of back then. Some full on race cars back then weren't as quick as what's driving around now.
I know what I'm trying to say, but I'm tired. I hope ya'll understand.

hop

You're right John. It's unbelievable what technology has done. F.I. and other advances have made 8 second 0-60 the norm in POS grocery getters. The 1977 Dodge Aspen, 225-2 and automatic had a 16 second 0-60.

How do you guys dispose of your surplus Police vehicles? In the USA they are generally auctioned off at public auctions, either online or in person.

Same as you guys, public auction, I used to own a 1981 ex cop Valiant sedan fitted with 318 (Brazilian Block), it had AC and 16:1 manual steering, it was very heavy to steer around town but great on the freeways, I regret selling it as ex cop cars are now highly collectible down under.

Some more South Australian historic police vehicles, the last one is a Black and White Hong Kong police car imported from Australia, early 1970s, most likely had a 318 fitted.
