This morning we woke up.to a flat on the car. Almost everyone here is getting or needs a new roof so we have nails all over.
We have road hazard so went to get it fixed.
Since I was there looked at trailer tires. Was told only ones they had or could get were Carlisle and stock was 2 grades of Greenball. Think it was 6 and 8 ply or maybe it was 8 or 10 ply.
Guy said none returned from blow outs unless old or hit something
I had the feeling he was not truthful as they looked like cheap China entry level.

All you have to do to soften rubber (especially vehicle tires) is to let them soak up some diesel fuel. I've seen the rear tank on big pickups spring leaks where the spare tire is hung under the tank and I can tell you it works. In a vehicle's case it ruins the tire but a controlled soak will obtain results such as softer stickier rubber.:-P The rubber will swell some as well, kind of like an allergic reaction. Try starting with an hour long soak on rc tires. Repeat as needed and make sure to wash and dry the tires in between soakings. I work for Goodyear so the disclaimer on this one is diesel ruins vehicle tires!!! Don't try this on real vehicles!

Ok then, shall I say it?

You can buy rubber rejuvenater pretty much anywhere and it’s cheap!

Diesel is great for an old truck or tractor engine, but it’s horrible stuff indeed...

Yes I have been driving a diesel for ten years and it was brilliant!

But I will be going to hell for it and want no part in the devils fluids anymore... stirthepot

Back to my Mopars and 10 to the gallon ( instead of 50 mpg in my French car )

French and Diesel, what was I thinking of?

Covering your tires so the sun doesn't hit them is one of the best things you can do.
The sun does decay tires.

There really no actual natural rubber in tires anymore, they're made from petroleum by-products these days.

The suns UV rays destroy them, you know just like it does to plastic.
Treating them with something that protects against UV rays will help.

I use a pair of old steel exterior house doors leaned up against my trailer to keep the sun off the tires when it's parked, which is more than it's actually used.

Here in Arizona you have to park East/west to avoid you sidewalls from being exposed. I hade a new pair of tire crack on me in just two months. They also recommend a tire dressing applied once a month during the high heat months.

Do you use tire covers? I put new tires on my trailer last year and bought covers that I keep on the tires when it's parked. The spare stays in the shop until the trailer is hooked up. My trailer sits outside so I park it on boards instead of gravel, it may not help but it makes me feel better. wink
