There is a hole unless someone has swapped some parts around. Normally lining up the 3 levers so they are inline (flush) with each other as they exit the shifter housing and then moving them together while trying to insert the alignment gauge will get you there. beer

Original (OEM) shifters don't have a hole in the reverse arm. The original tool only had a pin long enough that engages the forward arms and forked around them to keep them straight. Not sure that the rev. was that important.

I have seen that before and I just had to keep adjusting the reverse rod until it cleared the gate smoothly. Corvette used a shifter that didn't have holes and there is a "U" shaped adjustment tool that aligns the levers for adjustments. Maybe you could make a tool that would work.

Yes, the out side fork was the only part of the tool that held the reverse arm.

Correcto...
Some Hurst shifter gates did not have an alignment hole in the reverse arm. Just eyeball it and align the reverse arm with the other 2 levers. When done right the shifter lever will move easy from left to right when in neutral..

Just my $0.02... wink

With the OP saying it was a Comp Plus shifter I assumed it was not an OEM unit but an aftermarket one, My bad spank

And Myself I always offset the reverse lever adjustment a turn or two so one has to 'jiggle" the shifter a bit to get in the "gate". Helps prevent mistakenly putting the car in reverse beer

There is a special tool to align the levers without three holes. Eyeballing the lever alignment in Neutral with the pin installed has always worked for me.
