I bet that's got you wondering...

So I hear a lot of guys talking about this stuff, on NON Mopar sites...

I have often thought, ''what is too much port''?

So I dragged out a set of rusty 906's destined for the scrap bin and started to 'port in anger'!

Obviously I had some valves in mind for the ultimate porting jobbie.

2.225 intake and 1.880 exhausts.

I went this way after having a long conversation with Robert Landy and 'what his DAD DID'!

He said its all about the undershelf in the exhaust port which is easiest to remove with the 1.880, (all iron B/B heads)

If its good enough for the Landy's, them I'm all in... whistling

Right back to the 90% RULE, mainly for intakes???

Folks are saying if the 'bowl area is more than 90% of the seat area', you is making a good head BAD!!! ozbbq

Technically it’s 90% of the valve size. It’s all about proper sizing and maintaining the Venturi

1970 Duster
Edelbrock headed 408
5.984@112.52
422 Indy headed small block
5.982@112.56 mph
9.42@138.27

Livin and lovin life one day at a time

I believe 90% would be considered on the conservative side. Depending on the head. I would think that if Landy came to 90% for 906's it would be a good place to at least start. But with the bowl opened past the throat size to create the venturi you could hit water in the 906 exhaust bowl. shruggy

Darin Morgan covers this on his Youtube videos. I recall he said it varied from 88% on low lift cams (~.50") to 92% on Pro Mod engines with over one-inch valve lift. You will have to sit through a lot of other good info to get to the point he covers this. It's a wealth of info based on flow bench and dyno and track results.
