I have used the MSD digital 6 ignition in the past with good success. What ignition systems do you guys like for street/strip vehicles now? My engine will be like most on here, 500" and pump gas ( 93). I appreciate any advice as I have not bought ignition stuff for a few years.

I'm running an old Mallory dual point, with a cable drive for the tach. But it only gets into the nines occasionally, and I have to file the points every 10k miles or so...which I can deal with.

It's really hard to beat the old analog MSD 6AL's.

They are dirt cheap used and run forever. I had one given to me and added on the dial rev limiter and the timing controller.

Have you ever treid another newer ignition on that car?
If not maybe you should twocents work scope
BTW, do you want to buy a spare or two Mallory flat cap distributors, with or without the tach drive? grin

I like and use the older MSD 404c or 7C race boxes with the proper coil for most of my hot street cars up devil

this is very interesting. do we have a tendency to be over reliant on the newest electronic gadgetry? i used to put together the engine for some friends who were die hard bracket racers; 10.00 car. they tried a 6al, 7 but had the greatest success with an old car quest lx101 and recurved mopar industrial electronic distributer. they hated msd stuff.

You can't beat a 6al. Its the first thing I put on every car. No points to mess with, no spare mopar boxes, no resistor.

Find them on ebay for $100-125 all day.

Almost everyone I know that runs a grid carries a spare.

It makes sense to me shruggy I always figured if a basic ignition reliably made a spark, than no amount of money spent would improve on it? That's why I resisted using a MSD box for so long, until I got one for free. It's an "old circle track" box is what the guy told me. FWIW the engine does seem to start easier and run smoother drive

My simple Street/Strip recipe. Mopar Chrome Box, Recurved stock electric distributor, Msd Blaster 2 coil, Mopar .25 ohm resistor. Used this setup on multiple cars over the years with no problems.

I got a Crane HI6 thats damn near 30 years old with a 3 step. Has to be the most reliable ignition box I have ever owned & it even starts the car when the battery is low. Shame they dont still make them.

Ive been using the same 6al box for almost 20 years. I bought a spare but have never needed it... Don't know how msd quality has gotten over the years but if it's like everything else... and on the ol' mans car we run the FBO 4secondsflat white ignition box. Dad has always ran the chrome box and mp tach drive distributor, but after the last one died switched to this. He loves it. Has a built in rev limiter.

Does anybody have any experience with Daytona Digital? Made in USA. I've been looking at it for a new build.

Thanks to all who replied. I am building a 470 for my Charger and this will be my first time using aftermarket ignition.

iagree I have ran Crane boxes on several different projects over the years. Never a failure unlike the MSD crap. The one on my Cuda today I bought used for $100 15 years ago. I see them for sale on the 'net every once in a while. If I were still building projects, I would grab every one that came along.
