iirc someone said the center hole was too big & caused a problem. I could weld/file the OE slots if thats the way I need to go. Thank you for your time.

the slots are way off on the two i have. only thing i can figure is they used .010" for a degree when it should be .0154" of travel for each degree. once that's figured out you're ok. don't trust the numbers on them!!!!!!!

you need to measure the plates or you'll end up going circles with this.

Filled the slots in mine with JB weld epoxy. Let it cure good, used a chainsaw file to get the same measurement side to side. Also figured out the degrees and slot length which turned out pretty accurate. Was about six years ago, and still working.

with the plates i have a marked10 is actually 6, 12 is 7, 14 is 8.5, 16 is 10, 18 is 11. good idea; poor execution.

Yikes - either I got lucky, or the manufacturing changed, or I just cluster-effed my way through and got REAL lucky.
I bought the dist from FBO with the plate installed, now that I think of it.

doesn't make any difference the slots are straight.

i would imagine fbo set your distributor up on a distributor machine so any needed corrections would have been done at the vendor. unless you're assembling your own stuff you'd never know. and who knows maybe i have screwed up ones? nevertheless they should be checked for accuracy.

what i know of the old owner I wouldn't ask him for the time of day, let alone use anything he had something to do with in a car, let alone a race car that could hurt me when a part fails twocents work
I do weld up the stock slots and then redo them to get the curve I want up wrench scope weld up

welding the slots was the old tried and true way to reduce distributor degrees. a distributor machine is a very big help in setting up the curve. keep in mind that .015" of slot length is one distributor degree. the guide pin in the centrifugal weight is very close to .250". a person could easily due the math to figure out the distributor degrees they want and have. i don't know why i even bought those plates. i've got enough parts and experience with this to do anything i want.

i have welded up the slots many times, and have had great success doing so.
the one thing that buggs me however, is removing the internal snap ring/spring under the rotor. i finally made a set of pliers that fit the diameter of the "upward pointing" ears, so no more fiddling with two tiny screwdrivers to get that thing out !
i came across a couple of those FBO plates quite a while ago, but i haven't tried to do anything with them.
i need to build a distributor for my charger, but i haven't decided if i will use a chrome box, 6AL, pertronix, or a gm HEI mounted under the housing.
i also have an offshore distributor i picked up at a swap meet one time for $5.00, and it has a ball bearing shaft in it. i might fab up some factory style guts for it, and experiment with that.

It is a shame the quality has gone down. Used the plate from the original owner on several builds. Always was dead on in my testing.

I have several sets of thin needle nose pliers that I have used to pull the spring steel wire retainer out, it usually bends them some but I straighten them out and use two narrow thin screw drivers to reinstall that retainer when I'm done wrench weld up
