A friend just bought a 2015 Dodge Journey. It goes in and out of "ship" mode. She knows how to turn ship mode off. The knob on the dash is broken, so she has to use a screwdriver. She says that it will reset itself and be fine for a few days, and then without warning, back to "ship" mode. She's planning to replace the knob, but since it does go back into normal mode, it doesn't sound like the broken knob is the problem. Any ideas?

Uhhh, what is "Ship mode" ??? . . . what "knob on dash" are you talking about ??? . . . .

Ship mode disables some of the electrical functions to help prevent battery drain during shipping. It is turned on/off by the "enter/browse" button on the dash, along with the front defrost button. The "enter/browse" button on her dash is missing, but she is able to use a screwdriver to press down on the internal switch. Getting ship mode turned off has not been a problem, but it keeps resetting itself to ship mode for some reason.

How about a loose or bad battery connection or a bad battery?

When trying out a new off the truck SRT in 2015 it was still in ship mode, nothing electrical worked, I didn’t take it far, afraid it would run out of gas.

Mike is it showing any fault codes? Can you still turn the ignition key on and off (3 times for the wife's T&C) to show any fault codes on current Chrysler models? One fault code that appears on the T&C is if the battery has been disconnected in the last 50 starts... I would think if it throws a code it may help trace the problem??

She's able to turn off ship mode without any problem. It's just randomly reverting back to ship mode at times. She's going to replace the controls so that she no longer has to use a screwdriver to hit the "enter" button, so that may help.

Mike from what I could find the key on/off three times for error fault codes is still possible, it may or may not show any codes but worth checking IMO.
