No gas, no oil change, no filters...hard to not consider. Not for everyone but on my list once my Cadillac-level daycare payments are over.

I think the Rivian trucks will be popular with urban businesses that do light duty deliveries. If your customer base is within a 25 or 30 miles radius, maybe it makes sense to plug it in at night next to your electric forklift.
I dont want one - but for some, they might make sense.

The power grid ? .. interesting!!

JUST HOW would that work in apartment living unless there was a massive investment

EV-s are not for me but id not dog anyone who buys one. One way or another this whole EV experiment will go on and to me better to have some more informed in the mix vs a soccer mom who can only understand she needs to plug it in.

Clearly this has been in the works for a long time if all these makers are ready to produce and sell, so let it run and see how it goes. Not that I like it one bit but I just live in this current mess vs control it.

I wouldn't recommend an EV to anyone who lives in an apartment. You really need a garage so you can plug the car in overnight and charge it. I use 110v to charge the Leaf but for a bigger car you need a 240v charger. The new houses that they are building around here all have 240 volt, 50 amp outlets in the garages for charging an EV. Older houses usually need some electrical work to pull a 50 amp circuit. Depending on how old the house is that can be easy or difficult.

Speaking of the devil .... Mr Green Leaf ! wave

But in Florida now - over 5000 people move here EVERY DAY (this was as of 2019!) .... it’s probably 7 now !

..... other than real high end homes .... most of what they’re building are condos and apartments!

How THE HELL are they going to WIRE THAT UP ?

My place is an older salt waterfront condo .... I’m gonna talk to the condo prez tomorrow

If you have a parking garage in the condo they might put a charger down there but then people will have to share it and not steal the charging cords from each other. Might work okay if everyone in the condo is honest but all it takes is one thief to mess it up for everyone else. Apartments would be even worse. I've seen stories of people getting killed for a cell phone or a laptop. A charger cable for an EV costs $500 from the dealer so low lifes will steal them in a second if you try to charge your car in an apartment complex.

There’s very limited first floor paid for assigned parking on the first floor ,.. there’s no residential first floor living here because of potential STORM SURGE off the gulf o mex !

There’s a BRAND NEW huge apartment complex a stones throw from here... no garages. I’m no electrical contractor... but hooking up charging stations would be a major job ...

What kind of average kWh usage would there be for each station ?

A good home charging station is 240 volt, 50 amps. Basically the same plug that you have in the house for a dryer or an oven so not a complicated deal. Just depends where the electrical panel is and how many open circuits there are. In a condo building my guess is that the contractor cut the design right to the bone in order to maximize his paycheck. It would get expensive if they had to pull in another service just for the charging stations.

7.5 billion in the Build Back Better plan for the electric car charging network.

"Part of the funding is reserved for building more EV infrastructure in rural, lower income, and underserved areas. These are often places where potential EV owners and users don’t have access to charging an electric car at home or at work."

Great, probably means more copper for the hood rats to steal.

The meaning of my Q was ... is to ball park the cost of operations on each charging station for an apartment complex and to blend that into the monthly lease or COA fees.....

HOW you could possibly AT A REASONABLE COST... hook each station into the individual apartment unit would be a HORROR SHOW

EV's generally are not cheap. Putting infrastructure in areas where folks can't afford an EV? Interesting.
