Here's more progress on the passenger front floor pan. One of the things I did learn is to go slow and have thick skin Another is a 4.25" 90* grinder shoots a lot of fire/sparks while grinding welds and that I need more practice at playing fireman lol. Copper

I plan on using undercoat on the bottom surfaces and rustoleum paint on the inside. I was planning on using ospho on it to completely cover all welded areas and the bare metal too first. Does anyone know the proper procedure to prep the bare metal surfaces before undercoating and painting? Thanks in advance Copper

Hopefully this is the last floor repair necessary . I marked the location on the picture where I found some small holes that I thought I could just fill in with weld. Nope! Not so easy, seemed that I would tr to weld it but the metal was too thin and just burned away so break out the sawsall and shears again. Copper

That happens when the hole is too big typically. Can always trim a small circle of metal to fill holes like that, or put copper behind them to help prevent the holes from growing larger when filing them..
Check all your welds for porosity with a flashlight too. Cleaver trick sir! Thank you sir. Copper

Just a little more progress today. I prepped the welds and bare metal and put a good coat of metal etching primer. I will be painting with rustolem before the sound/heat mat material I purchased. Why do I sometimes feel like i'm not making much progress but like ants build their nests one grain at a time, i'm going to keep going even if it's one grain of car stuff at a time.... Copper

I couldn't decide exactly where to mount the Hurst floor shifter untill I looked at the underside of the floor. The torsion bar crossmember decided it for me. The base of the shifter just clears the forward and rearward arch of the crossmember and I mean just. I installed the bolts from the bottom up so they would be like studs sticking up for ease of installation, maintenance and locating the holes through the carpet too. The shift cable grommet required a 1.5" hole to be opened.

Keep going is how it gets done. Don't be stingy with the paint and primer, especially on the bottom. Yes, my brother Henry (Model Maker) is giving me the same advise and will be inspecting my work too lol. Copper

More progress. You know you're getting old when the slightest cut makes you bleed like a stuck pig lol Floor metal work completed except final painting. Car is back on the ground and on it's way outside to get the engine and transmission installed. I'll finish spraying the undercoat on the undersides while it's on the lift. I had to swap out the nice Milodon 7 quart oil pan for a stock C body pan The B body pan sump is just a little bit too far forward to fit the A body K frame. Good thing I had one ready to go on hand! had to notch a section of the K frame to give the oil filter a bit more space. For those needing to know, my K frame is a DC hemi/big block and those mods done on the drivers side mount is how they would do it. Attention to detail was not part of the mod and I decided to leave it alone rather than cleaning it up. Copper

We were able to get it shoehorned back in before the prehistoric loxahatchee mosquitoes ran us off!! I'd sware they would carry off a small child no problem and even pitbulls run for shelter! Copper

Tomorrow I'm going to post pictures of the finished floor and the undercoat I used. I'm very pleased with the finished texture it leaves, almost looks like the original texture. Copper

Progress was made before those pesky mosquitoes attack again! I did shim the drivers motor mount bolt saddle area up just a bit to raise it up a little. The oil filter is very close to hitting the K frame. I notched the frame but I wanted a little extra space. Engine, transmission and K frame are installed (again) along with the 3" mandrel bent stainless exhaust system installed too It's back on the ground and in the pole barn/shop to continue assembly. Seems like the "to do list" gets longer rather than shorter Copper
