Hello,
I've been out of commission for a few years and am thinking about swapping my home ported 302 heads for Mag heads when I redo my 318. Back in the day, the EngineQuest heads were the cat's whiskers, but I've heard (those dangerous words) that the "new" EQ heads are not performance heads any more. So, what are people using for new Mag head builds?

How about it? Where do I go?

R.

EQ makes two Magnum heads. Standard (318A) and performance (318B).

Flow numbers

The heads themselves, bare.

I wonder if any of the usual suspects have checked out the "performance" version and verified flow.

People are scrounging for parts right now as you know. Several posts in wanted sections of various boards looking for some used old EQ or RHS castings. I think the guys that were selling the cast iron stuff are now selling prepped sidewinder aluminum castings. As with anything it is more about who builds them in terms of quality.

That is a chinese piece of crap, they no longer make the good ones. The quick easy surefire way to tell the difference is the flat end of the head on the good ones VS these look more like a stock one but they do not flow worth a crap and the casting quality is rougher than a stock one. Pay a local machine shop to do a valve job on your old ones, you'll be better off (ignore the cracks they don't affect anything).

I am not causing global warming, I am just trying to hold off a impending Ice Age!

there are no castings available for those heads. if we get lucky, they might have more around the middle of 2022.
