Most everyone who knows me knows that I am a lifelong E body fanatic. One of my Challengers, which I've owned since high school, will be in MCACN next week!
I bought a new Challenger R/T in 2009 and have enjoyed taking it to further away events, but as the years go by I have felt more and more guilty about being one of all the guys driving new or newer cars to a show or cruise.
Being someone who likes to be different, I've had in mind that if I could find a unusual car that would be comfortable for longer trips at highway speeds, and that wasn't a high dollar Mopar, I would buy it to replace my '09.
I narrowed it down to a Magnum, Cordoba or '79 300. And it had to have T Tops (or T bar roof as Mopar called them). Anyway, my friend was buying a car from a collector last spring and spotted this one in his collection. He didn't want to sell at the time, but a few months ago asked if I was still interested. I flew out to check it out, had to have it, and had Rhinodart haul it home for me. I had to put it directly into storage as I needed to sell my '09 to make room for it in my garage. I wasn't having any luck so recently put the '09 in storage and brought my new one home. Last weekend the weather was really nice so a local cruise organizer scheduled a late season cruise, which gave me a chance to take it out once this year at least. Drives great and people at the cruise loved seeing it. drive
Now I'm a B Body fanatic too. grin

And you should have seen the other cars the guy had for sale, and not for sale where I picked the car up! eek He even had a huge muscle bike collection and a copy of the robot from Lost in Space that he would sell for $10K! The Maggie is one sweet car for sure! up I didn't have the heart to tell Magnumguy I was cheating on him...LOL

Sadly I only had time to see one building of his cars when I flew out there to see the GT, he had more across the street and I think he has another building across the border storing even more cars!
He is talking about getting rid of his few E bodies, 2 ‘71 cuda 340s and a 71 FJ6 with green stripes pilot car Challenger. He just bought a 60 Chrysler Newport wagon and Ramchargers wagon he needs to pay for I guess.
I never cease to be amazed at the collections some gear heads manage to gather!

I got to see the cars across the street, the Newport wagon is awesome! He had an eclectic collection, but all were cool... up

But for some reason he’s been letting his coolest cars go (the E bodies and the Magnum)! tonguue
He is the one who sold the red and white 59 Sierra wagon which I think you’ve seen to a friend of mine. My friend had some engine problems after he got the car here, and he refunded some of the purchase money back to my friend to compensate for the repairs, so he’s a pretty decent guy to deal with. up

Mastershake,
Nice Magnum! I have a 79 GT myself, owned it since 1986. Let me know if you have any questions about the new ride. I'm local to you too-Western suburbs.

Cool! I go to a lot of cruises and shows in the area and have been doing that for years, and I have only seen 3 Magnums in the area over the years (well 4 now that I can go see another one parked in my garage!)
There are 2 black ones, both XEs. One, which is an original owner car with a sunroof, is a regular at a lot of west suburban cruises. The other which has a tan interior, I've only seen up close once, looks to have some rust in the dogleg area.
The only GT I've seen was a white one with blue interior, and T bar roof like mine. Beautiful car I saw at the Downers Grove Friday night cruise in 2015 and have never seen it again. By any chance is that one yours?
My vanity plates for the car arrived in the mail yesterday. I added a little "R" to it, which probably violates some law but I couldn't resist. grin

Looks great! I just looked at the picture of the black one I’ve seen that had a little rust in the dogleg, and it has a gray interior, blacked out headlight covers etc.
So that means there are at least 3 black Magnums in the area!
I saw a black Magnum that I thought had a tan interior driving by the Army Trail/County Farm road area in Hanover Park a few years ago, maybe that was you?
At any rate hopefully we can get together next year when the weather is good and compare notes.

Yes, it was most likely me. I live only about 10-15 minutes from there. I've never seen the other Magnums you've referenced. Get together-yes. BTW, what's under the hood of your Magnum?

I bet it has some crazy gear ratio like a 2.45 or something, maybe use the gear venders as an underdrive lol.

Mastershake that is a neat car!

The original owner sunroof XE is at the Saturday Lombard cruise night almost every week during the summer. He also goes to Westmont and often to the Sunday night cruise in Addison where I took my car last Sunday
Mines an 360 4 barrel. It’s been updated some with all the lean burn stuff gone etc.

You're correct. Mine was a 2.45 from the factory. With a Sure Grip, no less. grin

Nice buy,

I used to own a white with red interior T top Magnum.
And to this day would love to have another . Black with red interior would be 1st choice. T top or sunroof car would be mandatory
ALTHOUGH , ?????? https://www.coyoteclassics.com/vehicles/49/1979-dodge-magnum

I simply do NOT have room for one though.
