I talked to Drew at Callies yesterday, and that is what I was told. Maybe there are some places that are still selling at the old price, but he told me the price just went up.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised. I'm an HVAC supplier and the pricing industry wide has gone up 25-30% in the last year.

Ok, so what would it cost to find a ready to go short block under the Christmas tree?

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.

That's a whopping 18% increase over night!

You know, at that price, I am out. At $4800 I would have sprung for it and gone Hemi, but at that price, I will pass ....Going to build a blown 400 low deck stroker wedge instead...I have a block here and a bunch of other 400 parts....Everything for the Hemi is more, heck I got a quote for the intake that was $3k......So it looks like the answer to my riddle has been found.

You guys should try living in Australia
Freight, the coversion rate all bumps the price up. That block would be close to $8-9K or more here

Current Block options and price
Indy aluminum start at 6500 PLUS options and machine work
Bill Mitchell are 5895 Aluminum
KB are 7500 Aluminum
Callies list for 5800 retail IRON
Bulldogs Not sure since the company sold recently IRON
So if you are building a hemi or wedge with any smoke these are your options at the moment. All can be had for less in some cases. Price increases are happening across the board and coming in hot and fast. It is going to be a LONG winter..Todd

How finished or close is each block at purchase. How much more is needed for the block to be ready for build and are there options that are either built into each block no cost or you have to pay for. Each block has their own purpose but final price to build could be a lot different after more machine work and other thing might have to be done.

If you think about all man made metals they all come from a big molten pot of that material that is poured into molds and then either stamped "AKA Forged" into molds that are the shape of the part the makers wants to finish into a part or the molten medal is poured into a mold and removed after it cools with no stamping of the parts, hence those parts are call "cast" scope
