I just bought a '97 Dakota Sport with 318 engine. The previous owner removed the dash to replace the heater core but now when the little shift indicator cable is hooked up it is running backwards, park is where low is and low is park. What did he do wrong during reassembly? Thanx

I took the panel off the steering column to reveal the cable and lever. With the shifter in park the lever is at the bottom and the spring loaded cable is well above it. If I pull the cable out and connect it to the lever the selector is now in 1st gear but the shifter is in park, everything is backwards. That must be why the shop that replaced the heater core left it disconnected.
