just read this.

A Rented Tesla Model S Just Shattered the EV Cannonball Record

copy pasted from article.

His official record, set with friend and co-driver Josh Allen on October 22, 2021 in a 2021 Tesla Model S Long Range, would be 42 hours and 17 minutes. That beats the previous coast-to-coast electric vehicle record of 44 hours and 26—set in a Porsche Taycan—by over 2 hours.

only about 17 hours slower than the gas record. Not sure I'd call that fast.

Yeah, a BFD item.
In the same amount of time, I towed a tunnel-hull raceboat from L.A. to Miami in the late '70s behind a GMC Dually.
So they definitely got better mileage !

1kw-hr/mi isn't too bad for driving as fast as you can.

Worth mentioning that was ran during the "shutdown" of covid in 2020, very very light traffic/congestion across the country. They beat their own record by 2 hours due to those circumstances.

Not that 17hr to 15hr is a game changer, but it is a noticeable advantage to the 25hr time along with 45gallons of additional fuel in the trunk. Which would be more comparable to the Tesla pulling a trailer with additional batteries and charging 2+ at the same time.

the reason why i posted this is because the last post about EV cars stated long distance trips are not likely done in EV cars due to time wasted on recharging. the record time shows this is becoming less and less of a problem.

the record setting car is 100% stock with nothing except lower resistance tires that are installed on another model car of the same brand.
the record setting gas cars all had larger gas tanks installed to reduce fill up times.

Pretty sure that all the time for fill ups needed for a stock gas car to cross the US would equal about one recharge for the Tesla, maybe two if you got lunch.

Back in 84 I drove from Chicago to San Diego in a stock 74 Dart with a /6. Took me 38 hours straight thru with traffic, construction, etc and a 55 mph speed limit back then, I didn't speed. Now days that would be about the time needed for the same Dart to go from NYC to LA.

I don't really care how you polish that Tesla run, it's still a turd.

They keep trying to prove to us what all the battery cars can do. When they really only need to prove one thing; practicality for the masses. But that is the one thing that they cannot do. At least not yet.

For all the inferiorities the EV has over the internal combustion engine- the EV should be priced about 50% less than a petrol vehicle. Actually the EV should be banned due to the exposition of the lithium miners working in horrendous conditions for crap pay. Plus the damage done to the soil water and air by the total manufacturing process of the batteries. China has no EPA and DNR making them dispose of hazardous byproducts like we have here in the good ole evil terrible US.

Keep old mopars alive.
