Does anyone know whether it would have been a probable delay of assembly at the plant if a car was ordered by a dealer that got a deposit from the purchaser, and then they never came back to finalize the puchase at the dealer? Car in question is a 68 B body that was ordered, but built a few weeks after the SPD and then it was delivered to the dealer and sat on lot for weeks, as the customer never cane back to complete payment. It was a Hamtramk car if that matters.

Thanks.

there are hundreds of scenarios that could explain a delay at the plant and/or a delay covering the completed sale of an automobile

the dealership could've claimed the car was "SOLD" even though they just wanted it for inventory
after a car was "scheduled" a delay could've been due to parts shortages
this delay could've caused a potential customer to purchase another vehicle on hand at the dealership
a dealership's finances could've contributed to the delay
etc.
etc.

what are you using to determine the car was built a few weeks after the SPD?

My car’s SPD was 12/8/67. Every part that was on the car (I’ve owned it for 35 yrs) was datedslightly after that. Engine assy date 12/21 , trans assy 12/13, K-frame 12/22, int manifold casting date 12/11, etc.. The orig owner’s brother, who was with him when he picked up the car, told me that someone ordered the car and put a deposit down and they never came back to get it. Yhe car was sitting on the lot for s couple of weeks and his brother would go in and ask about buying it. They told him the first few times that the people were coming back. The last time , he told them , “ look, they apparently are not coming back to purchase it, I want it”. They sold it to him. That is what i know about it.
