So I bought a set of 4 for my 68 Charger off ebay, but they sent me the wrong rear shocks:

KG5466 were sent, which is for midsize 4x4 vs

KG5512

dimensionally they are close, but not the same, but is the valving also going to be different or are they all just the same inside? The ebay retailer says 'they are all the same', but that's just a random seller on ebay of course

KG5466
Extended Length 22.95
Compressed Length 14.09
Stroke Length 8.86

KG5512
Extended Length 22.64
Compressed Length 13.98
Stroke Length 8.66

but I don't see any info about valving or vehicle weight assumptions

Don't trust a random Ebay seller, but will trust a random internet poster?

Always go to the source

Not sure of the answer, but I just removed the KYB's off the front of my 68 Charger, they are WAY to stiff on compression, could feel every little bump, ripple in the road, it drove great but gave a VERY rough ride in the front, I put some cheap monroe matics on & it is smooth as glass now, BUT handling was better with the KYB, but my car was built for street strip & running on the highway not corner carving

I guess none of us should ask questions here then?

I did go to KYB, that's how I got the dimensions I shared. Your link helped me with top/bottom mounts, which also aren't the same, so thank you for that.

I've got the monroe 'wave makers' today and the car is far to floaty and bottoms out on bumps far to easily for my tastes.

I like your term WAVE MAKERS LOL, & yes they are, my car sits very low in the front I have not had any bottoming out as of yet, I have a large sway bar on the front & a smaller adjustable one on the rear & the RT torsion bars .920 I think is the size, I diffidently liked the handling of the KYB over the monroe's, but I sure like running 80 mph & up with a smoother ride.

Guess you missed the part where they say "Choosing a shock absorber for a particular application must include component performance (damping rate) capabilities in addition to dimensions and mountings."

That info wasn't even required since the mounting is not the same, that's more than enough 'proof' for me to file my claim with ebay that the seller didn't ship what he sold. That vague claim on the KYB site isn't going to mean anything to ebay, physical dimensions and mount points different will. That KYB page would be very useful if it had the valving specs as well, but that's probably IP they don't want to publish.

Didn't mean to piss in your Wheaties, my apologies.

THE OP's question should have been "do all KYB shocks suck?"

Based on over 20 years on these forums, then the correct answer would be "no", but very rarely.

Valving is not the core issue here. KYB just seems to be clueless. twocents

Reality check, that half the population is smarter then 50% of the people and it's a constantly contested fact.

If you want valving specs you have to call them, like it says om the page I linked. I called them in the 90's to get the rates on a set of A body spec shocks.

As for the mounting thing, you didn't ask for that but glad you found what you really needed to sort it out.

BTW, see what I mean about opinions here? and my wheaties are unfazed
