Thought I would start a new thread (if possible) about intake porting.

I only had one pro-ported intake, a Team G domi-flanged beauty which I unfortunately sold with an engine. ( it was matched to the Loring heads)

So I have a pair of 'old school' Torkers for my 452 going up to a 511 sometime soon.

Compared to the team G the Torkers look very restricted inside the runners.
I have managed to lose my treasured pics of the 'Team G' so I gotta start from scratch.

Anyone got any detailed pics of an 'all out' Torker or similar single plane intake please?

Basically ''do's and don'ts''... help spank sawzall

An original Torker will be a noticeable cork on a stroker.

They’re better suited toward mid-level 440’s up to about 500hp.

What tools do you have to work with?

Getting set up to work port manifolds if starting from scratch can be an expensive exercise. Long shank burrs for aluminium of different shapes, a grinder that can run slow enough, various calipers etc.

As Dwayne eluded to, you also could be putting a lot of time and money into an intake that won't perform as well as others on the market as cast.

I did some intake testing years ago on a DTS engine dyno, we tested a M1 single plane 4150 , a Torker 2 and a Eddy Performer RPM. We used the same carb on all three intakes and the Torker 2 made the least amount of torque and HP and made peaks at less RPM also down
The M1 single plane made more power than the RPM did at or above 5500 RPM but that motor wanted to be done at 5900 RPM regardless of the
intake manifold or ignition timing. It was street 426 bored to 4.320 and stroked to 4.150.
My choice was the RPM on that motor for street driving up
IHTHs

This is a small block Mopar Victor340 going on my new 408. I use a Foredome grinder controlled by a foot peddle so I can go slow and easy. I always flow test them mounted on the heads I’m going to use so it takes some time.

Mid level 452ci would be fine for my entry level 71-GTX lol... iagree

I can see now, why Torkers are always 'up for grabs' doh... rant

I have an M1 and an Eddy 8bbl too, but eventually wanted to go iron Six-barrel 'in keeping' with the 71 car I have.
(Plus a Street Dominator which looks clumsy at best)

I have plenty of tooling and plenty of time too, being retired lol.

I will hand port the Torker as it obviously needs it... pity

Just don't want to 'do the classic mistake', OVER porting and ending up, 'with a worse flow', than at the start... whistling

Dave Hughes has a good 'write-up' on his site which is very informative, without giving any secrets away.
Except he says that ''under the carb flange needs work, not for flow but for 'good mixing', how sweet''

Then names the 'bad boys' and says mother Mopar has ''let us all down' in the MANIFOLD MARKET... fan

Only Wilson's get a mention in the 'WHOLE WIDE WORLD' of Manifold porters... catfight

Lucky for us Mopar folks we got the HEMI, or we would be STUFFED. ozbbq

ps, don't want to go back to the 'bad old days' stick a tunnel ram on and cut a HUGE hole in 'da HOOD'... sawzall

I remember a company that used a thick abrasive hydraulic paste and would force/pump through high performance 2 stroke cylinders to identify high friction areas and it would also clean/smooth up the ports, it wasn't necessarily used to "port" as much as it was to identify where attention was needed in porting. twocents popcorn

I did have the pleasure of meeting Victor Edelbrock, some ten years ago.

I asked him about Mopar manifolds, to which he replied, ''we have the sixpack, who needs more''?

Nice reply but not everyone wants to run a six-pack/six-barrel... violin

I also asked him why the 440 Performer intake was SO BAD! (all done at 3000 and very bad fuel distribution too)

No reply... fan

The 'Hotrod' manifold comparison test was along the lines of my actual engine.

The Torker faired quite well even against the more expensive and exotics!

My surprise was the Holley Street Dominator was not as bad as I thought?

Shame they didn't stick a Six-barrel on there too... scope

Nick has just done the 520ci dyno run with a stock 71 intake and 'header versus manifolds' on his customers GTX!
Un-ported Stealth heads (I assume) with an 800 carb.

What does this all prove?
Why spend a fortune on a stroker, for grocery getting... realcrazy

BIG engines need BIG HEADS?
Probably INDY or EDDY VICTORS and a decent intake... blah

The Charger 500 engine with 'Trickflows' was inspirational, but not IRON, so no help there either...

Now the 'Torque Monster' engine is a sight for sore eyes and all done with an Eddy 7193 dual plane WOW!!! drive
