The edelbrock 1408 on my '79 Power Wagon factory 360 is leaking from body and looks to need rebuilding and I'd love to have an excuse to have a Thermoquad again with that great sound. I'm still waiting on 440 builder to let me know he's ready to start build so that is going to be awhile. Thoughts on this one reference the model number and price please

If you like all noise and not real performance id get that one.

I see the pics show adjustment screws, not sure the smog carbs had them open to adjust. But its advertised as a smog year carb so id place it low on my want list.

Same carb 100 less?????

Dump the old school plastic quad along with the tuning headaches, leaks, etc...I'm running one of these on my 87 360 Power Wagon, planning on getting another for my Daughter's 318 Poly in her 61 Fury... I went with the full aluminum body vs the composite

The Demons are supposed to have huge secondaries and much easier adjusting and better with 10% ethanol fuels. After watching a video review I was sold but now that I'm going to get a 440 built I figure I won't spend the money. That's a nice one Mr. Poto posted up

Give Scott Smith a call, he knows which #s are best and what they're worth.
What I loved about the T-quad I had on a 406" SB street car was its throttle response & MPG; I didn't prioritize its WOT sound, but it was a bit of fun too.

That's an easy answer. If you ever find a 4000 series thats the nicer one... then the 6000 series. The 9000 series is considered tipically the "smogger era" but there is not a lot to change if you don't get connected any of the smog accesories. Carbs are about the same and tune up most the same. The "smogger era" is about misc parts around, not build into the carb (with minor exceptions).

Then you can tune up with metering rods and jets just as any other carb. The harder part is get the tune up parts for them.

The creator of the Street Demon carburetor worked for Carter back in the hey day of our musclecars. He took the best attributes of the Carter AFB, The Rochester Quadrajet and most obvious- the beloved Carter Thermoquad and created a modern carburetor. I have no doubt remanufactured Thermoquads from the correct rebuilder work great. But for NOT alot of $$ one can have a brand new carb with available obtainable parts.

Keep old mopars alive.

Thanks for info Topside. Obviously WOT sound is not priority on this being that it's mostly stock (headers, dual exhausts - no cats - no air pump) heavy truck but that sound is nice to hear every now and then and is music to my Mopar ears.

2boltmain, I get where you're coming from and may just splurge a bit for simplicity and reliability and when the 440 comes use the carb on something else or sell.

Those that hate the TQ, really don't understand it . . . . had TQ on my 74 Duster360 . . .loved it !! Rebuilt it - followed the factory steps and set up . . . worked great, great mileage too !! When I took the lean burn off my 77 New Yorker (stock 440), I went with regular mopar electronic ignition and TQ from a 75/76 era 440 - again rebuilt to factory set up . . . worked great also. Only car I have owned, step on gas once when cold, sets up choke and runs great, then comes off choke in about 2-3minutes and runs great ! . . .

To "know" a TQ, is to understand and not screw it up thinking you know better than the Carter engineers . . . gotta figure they go it way right, having Edelbrock buy/sell the AVS, and Demon with TQ styles . . . .

Course, most just go directly to Fuel Injection now . . . .

Enjoy . . .

Im not reading T quad hate here at all but rather just being sure to get the better or best T quad one can get. On of my best oem carbs on a stock motor was a semi smog era quadrajet? on a SD455. Some chosen metering rods, air flap adjustments and a few simple things made it sound unreal like a TQ and the performance was great.

The plastic parts have been there tender spot from the very early days, get passed that and they simply rock.

They can't be that huge. 625 cfm vs 800 to 850 for a TQ depending on what model.

Theres also a larger model, but not as large as either TQ!

I think the demon design is smaller cause it has two bolt patterns to fit square or spread bore manifolds WITHOUT an adapter, which I think is pretty cool!

I do not have first hand knowledge, but I've heard from others that they do not have the TQ WOT sound. Can anyone confirm????

I wanted to know as well.
My 1972 340 Challenger had the stock 340 with just blackjack headers added by the second owner who I get up with and was a good friend. And a mild cam I put in. And the TQ tgat came on it when it was new performed well and has the Bad,Add sound. And gave good enough mileage till.the plastic fantastic bowl started to leak.
It had. Great sound when the TQ opened
