Real thing .. My friend had it in garage for years in Dallas , I've not been able to reach him .. he worked for the Cat dealer and raced a 63 Dodge .. on facebook one night his car was in a stacker trailer at a race in south Texas so, something must of happened to him frown

Maybe covid ? ... no idea , but, he had quite the stash of cars and parts

Not sure who your friend was that owned it in Dallas but I know a guy that claims he had the car and not sure but I think he “ restored “ it back to factory race trim and I’m pretty sure he sold it. He may have been the one that sold it at Mecum auctions. He did not own or race a 63 dodge though. He’s a younger guy in the real estate business. I’ll ask him. He always refers to it when we talk cars.

A 440-6 setting a record in traditionally HEMI SS/DA??? Unless it was run with a Hemi and now has the original 440-6?

Dave Wren ran it with a Hemi in SS/DA and SS/D.

I wonder how legal the Cuda is now. 85K and it might need everything to make it legal in Super Stock. Legal Hemi Motor is not cheap and the upgrade to 2022 Tech might cost a ton of cash.

It appears to be on leaf springs and the front half of the cage is gone. Standard H pattern shifter. It is likely no where near legal. It's not really a super stock race car anymore and for many, it is not the kind of car you would take back racing. I don't think I could.

I have a 1971 Challenger that ran SSD then Mod Prod. and to run real fast with it today it would take a new Cage and a lot of other safety equipment. So this Cuda will likely have its History erased and be another 1970 440-6 Trailer Queen Cuda. It takes a ton of money to return these cars to the track to race in its past class. Working on a 1972 Pro Stock Cuda now and safety is number one because we think it will go into the 8s at over 150 MPH so a new cage, four wheel disc brakes and much more is going to happen. It is hard to keep the History and go fast with todays rules but that is the fun of owning these cars, thinking of how to keep the past with the present.

hemicar 1971- Don't take me wrong. I sure wouldn't do a stock resto on something like that and would work to keep it "as raced" as much as possible. My 383 GTS is a "day three" car and I will be keeping as much as possible original. Your cars sound amazing (post pics!) and I understand that you need to make changes to race a 1972 style pro stock car. I just couldn't see returning this car to a modern Super Stock- hemi or 440. Too much of the original car needs to go away to get competitive.

I would keep this Cuda as it is if I had it. As other said it would cost too much to race it today, besides I think the car is worth too much, regarding it's past history to potentially damage it at a race somewhere.
I used to work at a dragstrip for alot of years, and I saw firshand, just about every weekend a car would get damaged by a multitude of reasons...engines/transmissions blowing up in the burnout box, doing burnouts....cars losing control and crashing into a guardrail(s)...axles breaking and rear tires flying off with the axle still attached!...saw alot of cars flip end over end after losing control eek The list goes on..so this car is now too valuable to "race" IMO.

To me, that's a hard sell. Not original to its race life, not original to the factory, and lettered up so it's a weak imitation of what it could be either way. Does anyone know if the lettering is vinyl or paint?
