Finally a HUSKER again
OK, finally getting my big block stuck into my ol pickup. starter mocking it all up this weekend, Ive got a box of lower pulleys, and upper pulleys. nothing lines up crank to water pump. I found a dropped out 383 from a 70s C body. Im fine with using the car PS pump, and just use car brackets and pump, but Im curious how many different pulleys were optional? Ive got 6 different lower pulleys, and nothing lines up with anything. Ive got 3 different water pump pulleys. Im going to use the alternator brackets, and a 2 groove pulley alternator.

Do you have an aftermarket damper on the engine? I have a cast crank 400 and 440 with 2 groove pulleys and everything lines up, but it's all as built factory wise. I have a 4 groove pulley but doesn't seem to fit into the 440 cast crank damper. Not sure what the 4 groove is off of though.

The damper is from Mancinni, the " pro street" I have it on several other engines without issues, I called Bouchelin performance, they gave me a measurement, 4 9/32" from face of water pump flange to the face of the damper hub, so Im gonna check that tonight, and hopefully its correct and Ill go from there and either buy all new stuff from them, or just go rob the parts of the 383 at a buddies place and leave a 30 pack of Bush Light in place of the parts LOL

That seems really odd that so many pulleys don't line up. Perhaps the damper isn't on all the way?

The simplest answer is always to rob a full set of pulleys with the right accessories for your needs from an engine. There are so many variations over the years that if you have to start mixing and matching, well, you'll be mixing and matching. We've got a big pile of pulleys from 30yrs of dismantling so we just start experimenting...

Exactly what Im ending up doing. I meaured the distance from damper hub to water pump and its all ok.
