You may have seen my thread on my Demon build (71 Demon Project Build). I made pretty good progress since starting in November but I just committed the cardinal sin...yes, I started another project

The reason is the Demon is my race car. I had hoped to get it done by March for racing but have just finished the body work/filler this month. So instead of rushing the paint job and re-construction, or missing racing season, I decided to quickly put together a race car. The definition of "quickly" being 10 days, which is the next race!!

Here it is, I picked up a '73 Scamp that I knew about on the cheap. It's a /6 disc brake car.

Here is what it looks like after 4 hours of work

My plan is to place the entire drivetrain out of the Demon into the Scamp, have a driveline made, and hit the track in 10 days. Shouldn't be too hard except for the "small" things that don't match up like the brake lines, wiring, steering column...

Awesome--I admire your enthusiasm. I'm no redneck, but this seems like one of the few appropriate times to say "Gitterdun!"

6 days left

Installed the motor/tranny/K member and hooked up all the front suspension and brake lines and installed the rearend (found one slight problem I will discuss later).

All I have to do to complete the project is install new wiring harness under dash and engine compartment, install steering column, floor shifter, master cylinder and radiator/tranny cooler. I also need to find a driveline that I can have modified to work. That should be doable in the next 6 days (racing is Saturday May 2nd).

One thing I found while installing the rearend was that the tires are rubbing. I thought this would happen as I have been running a B body 8 3/4 in the Demon (works fine) but the Scamp quarter comes down over the tire more so it hits. I don't have an A body 8 3/4 or time to make one so I guess I will bring out the skinny wheel and make new wheel openings on the Scamp. I planned on taking this car to the junkyard in the next few months anyway (once racing is over) but I still hate cutting up the side of a car

See if you can find the dimensions for the Hurst/HEMI Darts, and open the wheel openings accordingly. That way, if someone else wants to campaign the car after you, it looks kinda like the real deal? Seems solid enough to pass on down the line...

2 Demons...no, not my kids!

Thats a very good point...and i dont want to really cut up my 69 dart....

Car looks great for my standards....wish mine could make that kinda progress in 10 days. I dont know if im the only one but ive always liked the looks of a scamp...and its pre-smog....might have to get rid of the dart and find one

5 days left!

Was only able to spend 4 hours in the shop today (this makes 16 hours total).

Installed the radiator, tranny cooler, rad overflow, rad/heater hoses, wiring harness under the dash, guages and cut the rear wheel wells to accept the tires. I took before/after pics but left the camera out in the shop. I will post update pics tomorrow.

Here is what's left:

-master cylinder
-steering column
-battery tray
-engine wiring harness
-floor shifter
-driveline (still need to find a core to get one made up)

This should be doable in the next 5 days

4 days left!

Only three hours in the shop tonight. Finished wiring the engine compartment, electric fans and linelock. Installed floor shifter (still need to run cable), steering column and master cylinder.

I need to install battery tray, battery and run the fuel line and it should fire up.

It's not pretty but hey, it's only a temporary race car thrown together in 6 days so far.

Open rear wheel wells

Almost looks stock

Well, technically no.

On Wednesday the weatherman said to plan for rain all weekend (and they were right) so I backed off on the late nights to rush and get it done. I still feel pretty good because the only thing I didn't get done is get a driveshaft made up, everthing else it done. I didn't have a core driveshaft to get cut down, but I did get one today so I'll take it in this week.

So I didn't get it driving in 10 days but I still didn't miss any racing

hi
Rain foiled my plans too this weekend. Couldn't get the Magnum engine in there for good.

Bummer. Wish I were closer to give either of you hand.

Awesome project! I could not take it to the scrapper though because to me thats a pretty decent car...but on the other hand everyone would call my fixer uppers parts cars!
