With my future build still mostly on paper, I decided to look at some ideas for when I do start building my truck. Though I know there are hundreds of views/posts here, I can't say I have ever seen anything really on pickup trucks unless it's a tow vehicle. Trying to get some ideas for chassis, cages, rear-ends, wheel clearance, etc from the racers/builders. Would enjoy seeing what the members have built over the years. Got anything to share?
Quite a few on here... What level of performance you looking for? Below are my current truck, A truck I built in 1986 w/a 440 then Upgraded in 1988 to a Hemi and then full tube chassis w a Hemi in 1989.

Oh dang, those are nice AND it looks like your ready to boogie! About what I want to build is a 1970's Ramcharger, kinda street/strip truck. Might try to find a stepside again down the road if It's more feasible to build. Not sure how much of the stock frame is good, so maybe boxing and cage might work. The stance on that last pic is crazy!
This one will be totally on its way soon. Transforming from show car to racecar. 6.0 cert moly chassis all steel and even will retain the power windows.

The first mods I did to make the '79 a "Drag Truck" was to remove the rear axle and springs and spring hangers. Mounted some B Body front and rear spring mounts to the bottom flange of the frame rail using the B body springs for placement and ultimately suspension. Then I used a B body Dana 60 (5.13 gears) mounted on top of the springs with the perches re positioned for spring with and pinion angle. Cut the box tubs for tire clearance to the frame rail and a centered 14"wide wheel put some 32x14 slicks . Left the 6cyl springs in the front and removed any and all unnecessary stuff from under the hood. Using a 76 smog 440 with a Direct connection .509 hyd cam, Holley Street Dominator intake, 800 Holley and Headman Truck headers. the trans was a 727 with a homemade reverse manual VB and the torque converter from behind the smog 440 it ran a best of 13.09. Put a warmed up 426 ( increased comp to 12-1, .650 lift flat tappet cam, tunnel ram with a pair of 660's ) in it with a set of slightly modified A body Hemi headers and better converter, it would run 11.50's but need a roll bar so usually just dialed slower. Both of these combinations were street-able and were often driven silks and all around town. I actually have a ’84 2wd Ramcharger sitting as a “ I got nothing to work on “ project. The plan is to take the roof and rear window off a PU and graft it to the RC to make it an extra short wb (108 vs 118) Uni body PU. Then do up a simple tube chassis out of the parts that have accumulated around here … just to stay busy, If Im lucky I'd be able to sell it and break even on parts.

2001 Dakota 10.65 at 126 mph. 394 CI small block LA. 904 trans 8 3/4 w/ 4.56 Power windows, door locks, mirrors. Full interior 3750 with 180 lb driver.
I like the idea of a 70's Ramcharger and build it as an "All wheel drive" vehicle instead of just the common rear wheel drive setup most drag cars use.

Not nearly as fast as these on this post, but it is very streetable with a mild 392 Magnum based motor, 9.5:1 compression, .520 hydraulic roller, 3.55 gear.
