Do you wear a “smartwatch” ?

Have you worn one for awhile?
Used more than one brand?

Automobile uses,
exercise uses,
health uses?

This article claims they can tell you the odds you have either H1N1 influenza, or a Cold Rhinovirus, and can tell the difference between the two viruses.

https://medicalxpress.com/news/2021-09-smartwatches-viral-infection-symptoms-surface.html

sample quote

For the study, Dunn's team gave 31 volunteers a nasal dose of H1N1 flu and 18 a common cold virus. Participants wore the sensor wristband for four days before and five days after inoculation.

Using only data from the wearable devices, the researchers could tell the difference between those infected and those not infected with up to 92% accuracy for H1N1 and 88% for the cold virus. The data could also distinguish between mild and moderate infection a day before symptoms started with 90% accuracy for H1N1 and 89% for the cold virus.

Have an Iphone 12 Pro Max. I can damn near run my business from it and it even has a CLOCK smile I was never much of a watch guy anyway. Remember a few years ago wife and I went to a fancy dinner with casual acquaintances / friends. All, including the one guy who was a priest, had a Rolex on except me. Nope, I didn't feel inferior in the least.

Off topic but with my iphone I can....
Control 6 thermostats
Monitor 8 Nest cameras and 4 doorbell cams
Control my sprinklers remotely (and then see they are working via the cams)
Remote control my computers (a little tough but doable)
Monitor my electricity use
Monitor my water use using Bluebot (have septic at the lake house so wanted to watch how much water we do or should I say DONT use)
Use as a credit card terminal
and yep its a watch/clock too

I stopped wearing a watch 7 years ago. The day I retired. Plus my iPhone has a clock.

I've loved watches since I was a little kid and smart ones don't do it for me looks wise so no. I mostly love Seikos and that's what I wear. Wouldn't mind an Omego but big bucks.

Facts are stubborn things.

Haven't worn a watch since 1977, on a tow to Sebring, IIRC.
There are clocks everywhere, so no need to saddle myself with one.
I seem to know the time within 10-15 minutes anyway, God knows why shruggy

I haven't worn a watch in many years. They just became uncomfortable, so no I don't want a smart watch, either as it would have the same problem. I do have a really cool watch, though, a pocket watch. This is a 1926 Waltham railroad grade (23 jewels, diamonds in the middle) that was on my mom's real father the day he died in a 1940 logging accident. I had it fixed up and it keeps real nice time, but I don't carry it with me. First picture is as it was given to me with some rust and a plastic lens. A friend of mine is in the watch business as a side job. He had the watch fixed up and sold me the chain with the bear tooth.

I have a cheap $30 one. It gets text and call notifications on it, tells time, tracks steps, sleep and heart rate monitor, and alarm. It does not have sound, so notifications and alarms are vibrations. Good for when I'm out or at work (not supposed to have phone on you) and can't look at the phone to see who is calling or texting. Battery lasts over a week how I have it set up.

I got an apple watch about 2 weeks ago and am really liking it. I'm 34, two kids, corporate job and we're on the run a lot and I find it pretty helpful.

It's also helpful while I'm out fishing or doing something, I can respond to a text without needing clean/dry hands or digging in my pocket for my phone. ApplePay/Tap-to-Pay on it is pretty awesome as well.

I can see there being a lot of benefit to them for health/monitoring reasons for older folks as well. Many don't want to carry a phone all of the time anyway but they also don't want to be walking around with a giant LifeAlert around their neck if they fall. The watches can monitor your walking for steadiness, look for irregular hearth rhythms, call for help, etc.

Same here! Every time I wake up whether its in the middle of the night or in the AM I can guess the time within 15 minutes.

Love pocket watches, I carry a Illinois 1919 A. Lincoln from time to time, usually on Sundays for church. It keeps very good time too.

I haven't worn a wrist watch in years for one simple reason, I tear them up. I'll be working on something, reach in a tight spot and get the band or watch hung and have to tear it off to get my hand out. Same with my wedding ring, I only wear it on Sundays or if the wife and I are going out.

Looking at getting one for my wife, who is recovering from Guillain-Barre syndrome. She will be a fall risk for a while, and I have to go back to work pretty soon, and I like the fall alert that the Apple watch has with it. We both have Apple phones, from our workplaces, so their watch would complement the phones and work with them.

I'm on my second Apple Watch (series 5, now). My first one was the original Apple Watch (series 1), and it's still working (upgraded a few years ago, gave the first one to my son).

I like them. I had not worn a watch for many, many years (farmed with my Dad for over 20 years, didn't wear a watch when farming).
When I changed careers, my wife insisted that I get a watch (I'm going on 10 years as an insurance agent). I held out for some time, as I was not used to wearing them.
When the Apple Watch came out, I gave it a try as she had insisted that I get a watch. I like the features, it helps with Navigation (when I'm driving my Ram, I use my iPhone for Navigation when driving in an unfamilar city).
The watch syncs to the phone and it "taps" me when to turn, as well as giving me turn by turn directions right on the watch (So I don't have to look away from the windshield/steering wheel). Very handy.
Also, I love that it tells me the weather with a glance (my office in in the depths of this building, so I don't have a window, basically, I'm in the room where you would hide from a Tornado). So, often, the weather changes without my knowledge. Therefore, I can quick glance at my watch and it tells me instantly if it turned cold, it's raining, etc. so I can prepare before I leave the building (put on or take off a coat, hat, etc).
All minor stuff that I could, absolutely, live without, but I like it.
Plus, my newer one has the cell signal all on it's own (doesn't have to be near the iPhone to work), and I can send texts, make calls without having my phone on me all the time (nice when going for a walk, excersizing, etc.)

I got a relatively cheap but fairly full featured one about a year ago, thinking it would be great. But I just don't like the feeling of it on my wrist all the time. It was interesting to look at my heart rate, sleep pattern etc. but only for a couple days, then I didn't care about it and the novelty wore off.

If you're used to wearing a watch.. these tend to have to be worn tighter to keep good contact with the skin (and maybe shaving the arm under it so it gets a good read).. you may be OK. For me, not having worn a watch for years, having to wear a tight watch, for uninteresting information, just not for me.
