I have a 1970 (340) duster that I removed the fender plate on years ago. My ex wife used to race the car for a couple years and 5-6 years ago I gave the car to my son. We never transferred the title yet which is stupid because, well you know why. Well now 25 plus years later he asked me about the plate tonight. Well I guess it wasn’t as safe as I thought because I have no idea where I put it. Can I have a legal fender plate made and if so where.

Check any file you may have on the car, take-off parts, tool box, any "safe" place you may have put it...
Yes, you can have another one made, best to have the track (broadcast) sheet though so it's accurate.

Any idea how to go about having one made. Thanks for the help. I do have an area or two I will check out before I give up.

Without broadcast sheet there will be some assumptions on a couple of entrees. So consider it a reproduction part. It will be close and will bolt on, but won't be original. I had same issue on my 68 Road Runner. When my mom passed away, I was goign through a box from the kitchen and she had scooped up stuff I had left on the counter years prior and place the items in a small bag and stuck in in a drawer. Was there for over ten years from when I took it off until the time she passed. Its in my safe now while I work on the car.

There are three types of fender tags, the first one is obvious;

1. Original.

2. Reproduction - an exact copy of the original.

3. Fake.

The 'tag services' make both of the latter, it is all about greed for them.

Reproduction or fake, they can still pay their bills with no care for the hobby being degraded as a whole due to the fakes they make.

A fake tag also lowers the cars value even lower than just having no tag at all.

Fake tags also hurt the car owners reputation, any car owner that has a fake tag made can never be trusted.

People pointing others towards tag makers hurt their own reputations also.

That said it is OK to have a car with no fender tag, it really is.

Look in the ashtray, glovebox or console. A neighbor of mine has a 70 barracuda that he replaced the entire dash assembly on. He lost his tag and could not find it. One day I was looking over his parts stash and found his tag in the ashtray of the old dash up in his loft! Boy was he happy!

Found mine in the glovebox. Probably the most likely place to stash it.

Appreciate all the help guys. He sold the consol years ago and I know he cleaned it out because he saved his mother’s time slips from when she raced. I will check the ashtray and glovebox to make sure he checked there. I still have a few places to check in my basement. Thanks again.

Check all the places you "know it's not" John. I searched high and low for the plate for my Barracuda and it ended up being in a box I starred at for months and thought "I know it's not in there". Damn near passed out from relief mixed with embarrassment when I decided to actually look.

The build sheets where put on top of the glove box, in the rear seat springs, under the carpet and have also been found in the seats.
