Recently bought this ATI balancer as it is listed for all big blocks.

Putting this on the hemi in the road runner, which till now had a balancer that aligned with the 383-440 pulley set. I do have a double groove pulley on my alternator, and the belt went around the inner groove.

Now that it is on, it definitely needs the 69-71 hemi water pump pulley, as it aligns perfectly with the outer groove on my alternator pulley, which is the double groove pulley.

It is a thicker dampener, not as thick as a stock 69-71 hemi, so I didn't really think about it when I put it on.

There is also only one other ATI at Summit that was available, and it didn't list the thickness, so I just went with this one.

Anyone know what's up here? Or have an ATI part number of a dampener you have used?

Thanks!

I've never been able to make stock config pulleys work with an ATI.
As far as I know none of the ATI dampers line up properly and all require
shims and/or machine work to line the pulleys up.

That might be my own fault for not trying enough different stock pulleys, but if you
don't have 'em, you can't try 'em.

You might be able to make stock config pulleys work with a good selection of shims and a bunch of patience.

I usually end up taking the potpourri approach and just making a combination that I like, work...
Something that seems to make sense at the time. This one required 1/8 cut off the crank pulley.

make certain the hub is bottomed out on the timing gear and no more than around .001 press fit/often requires honing.
It's also okay to machine the hub shorter, but watch out for clearance to the timing cover (that's why I don't attempt it, but it's possible).

On my wedge I used a stock wedge WP pulley with a moroso crank pulley + shims.
This hemi has moroso crank pulley + AR spacer for the motor plate + .125 machined off the moroso pulley
with a march WP pulley.

Did you get the two ring balancer for your motor or did you get the high performance three ring balancer.?

The 122E damper is thicker than a standard 440 damper so you need a shorter pulley. The Doty lower pulley should line up with a single groove top pulley or you can use a Hemi lower pulley and shim it a little bit.

I was always under the impression that the lower pulley was the same on all big blocks, it's just the 69-71 upper pulley that is shorter in depth as the balancer was thicker?

It looks like where this one is will line up perfectly with the 69-71 hemi upper pulley, in the process of trying to acquire one now.

No, there are different depths for factory lower pullies plus the aftermarket offers several additional depths.

I'm running the ATI Damper .. It pushed my bottom pulley out by 3/8" (0.375"). How do I know this? When I saw that my alignment was screwed up, I bolted on the AR Engineering motor plate which happens to be 3/8" thick and to my surprise, the water pump and crank pulleys came back into alignment! As far as the alternator goes, I just make spacers on the lathe to get that lined up. I can provide pictures if you like.
