So I've installed a new Comp Cam and get the lifters out of the box... and here's what 7-8 of them look like. [censored]!!! I don't know if this will cause problems or not. At least the faces of the lifters are nice but these sides look like crap. I want to get this back together but would you guys use these?

Back to the great and powerful and the worlds worst QC for over 15 years..... Drum Roll................. Junk Axx .... Comp Cams.

Id send it all back and buy a diff brand.

They are like ebays worst seller that ebay still lets sell.

It happens with %50 of comp products I used to buy.

Crap in a box.

If they drop in and turn, I'd say they're fine. I'd personally return them and buy Howards or some other brand.

If you can't wait, maybe WD40 and emory them smooth? But you shouldn't need to with new lifters

They look like they have been in storage for years and years. I'm doubting they came right out of production like that and I wouldn't use them

Facts are stubborn things.

If you’d like to put it together instead of waiting for parts, a little PB Blaster and some scotchbrite would probably take care on that in short order.

Comp is just a label for an LLC. Forget any history with them, it's the lowest quality they can pawn off. As far as those lifters go, I'd send them back.

Yes, they look to me as if they have been in a box for years. Surprises me, because regardless of cam specs these are the "generic" mopar Comp cams lifter. They must sell more than a couple of cams a month so I would think the lifters would be going out to customers on a regular basis. Pretty disappointing and another reminder of why after 40+ years of doing this stuff, I'm really running out of patience with the older car scenario. Years ago you could go to the local NAPA and get things like lifters and not have to worry about quality. Now, it seems the vast majority is second rate and it's a crap shoot if you can use it or not.
I thought about the scotch-brite and lube clean up, but it really deflates me to thing I even would have to do this.
I bought the cam kit from Summit Racing, so I think I will call them and see if they can ship me just a set of lifters since the cam is already installed and lubed and the timing cover is back on.

In this case… that could be a good thing.

My buddy lost 2 comp cams on a run stand almost immediately. 3 weeks apart same part number. Both from Summit Racing.

I sold him an old MP cam I had that dated pre 2000.

No issues…. Been in car driven regular for over a year.

I have a Comp cam in my Barracuda bought in 2010. Still good.

iagree
how long have you had them and where were they purchased ?

Maybe they're cleaning out old inventory shruggy I sure wouldn't put it past them. Run em or not? Roll of the dice. If there are any pits could be some addition oiling there whistling

If the outside looks like that what does the inside look like? There are moving parts on the inside and if there's rust in there it could interfere with the plunger, metering disc and spring inside the lifter. If you're in a hurry, take the lifters apart and make sure there's no rust inside, clean them up, coat with oil and use them.

They look like most of the new Mopar parts we used to get, Mostly Old Parts And Rusted.

Who did you buy them from? Did you buy direct from Comp?

They're fine, you could take that off with your fingernail and as pointed out if they're actually old it's a good thing.
