Hello, I'm working on a 69 Dart and I have to get the correct lower ball joints. The front calipers look similar to a 73 and up setup but it has pins instead of sliders. I think they are Diplomat brakes? If so does anyone have an idea what knuckles would be used to put these on a Dart? Thanks in advance.

Could be FMJ body brakes or 70 74 B E body.

Or an aftermarket swap that used Ford calipers.

Pics will help.

Don't think FMJ's ever came with pin type calipers.

Some pictures and maybe the measurement between the mount holes would help.

The are only lower ball joint I am aware of that will work on an A body using later stock mopar 4.5" bolt pattern discs is the 73 and up disc brake ball joints.

I have 73 Charger brakes on my Savoy and they are pin type calipers.

I believe all of the late rear wheel drive cars used the slider calipers. The pin type were early 70s B/E as I understand it.

last to use both may have been '75- B bodies, I found my 11.75" set up on a '76 2 door Fury with pin type calipers.
The '73- A body pin types had smaller pistons than the 2.75" E and B bodies.

I took pin type off a 77 B when I did my swap to big rotors.

73 A bodies did not use pin type calipers. Sliders only. Pre 73 did use a pin type, but that would be the 4" bolt pattern setup

This is one of those places where the RockAuto online catalog is an asset. You can start picking a likely suspect (say a '75 Charger), drill down to the likely part (brake pads), and look at pics to see that according to the parts shown, they apparently went from a base number 39 pin-type pad to a base number 84 slider-type pad (some say 5/75, some say 11/75). Then click on the part number to see that the 84 slider pad fits everything from a '73 A to and '89 M-body. The 39 pin-type fits everything from a '66-78 B-body to a Bricklin to a Gremlin to a '72 D300 and a 1010 IHC truck. It's GREAT for figuring interchange on mechanical parts, especially on oddball stuff.

You can mix and match pin and slider calipers and caliper adapter bracket on 73-76 A-body/73-74 E-body spindles. Same for FMJ spindles.

So you really need to examine part for part what you have. Look for the Mopar Action Disc-O-Tech brake swap article online.
