Does this St. Louis VIN decal look legit? Never saw a decal with dashes.

bump

Also was looking at a website where this Hemi RR was for sale and thought the door sticker looked a little unusual with the hyphens between the digits...

Anyone know if that is a correct practice for this assembly line?

Doesn't even look close to my original 71 RR Decal. Number fonts are all wrong. 3's were always slanted on bottom, is the biggest giveaway.

Example of 71 GTX. My car is St. Louis built, but this Canadian car is the same.

I would guess that it is the way a repop VIN maker would show it's not original factory VIN tag.

Well, its not exactly a VIN tag. The official VIN is the dash vin.

Yes. That is kind of what I was thinking. I know there are reproduction door decals out there, so maybe whoever made it wanted to make something that kept it out of a falsification "gray area."

Absolutely correct up All that decal reads or states is that it complied with all of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) during the month that it was deemed finished by the manufacture. If for instance it was a '69 model year (which didn't have a date or a VIN on the sticker/decal) that was finished or finalized in December 1968 and it didn't have head restraints (aka head "rests", which were mandatory as of January 1, 1969) and an owner or passenger suffered whiplash then the manufacture was not liable. Just a compliance label like the tire pressure label also in the door jam/frame. Later was the GVWR and emission compliance labels, unleaded fuel only, seat belt labels, and even "Objects Are Closer Than They Appear" scope grin If it were really more than just a compliance label they would have made it tamper resistant and not put it on something you could just easily unbolt or remove and move to another vehicle.

I would need more info about the car. That font on the sticker is correct for some 71s. Do you have more photos of the car?
