Thoughts on metal flake steering wheels on an early B-body like mine. I recently let a friend drive my Savoy at Norwalk and he mentioned I should get a steering wheel to match my blue metal flake shifter ball. My original wheel was cracked and split so I've already replaced it with Grant three spoke walnut wheel so another Grant wheel would just be a bolt on deal. Now my car is not a resto by any definition but it's more of a street/strip car from the 70's.

I had one on my 64 Dart, caught crap from people, all in jest always asking me if the guy who owns the boat ever got another steering wheel.

If you find it fun & amusing, go for it.
Saw a lot of them back in the '60s, especially on Gassers & such.
Last I heard, that stuff is removable if you change your mind.

I haven't got a pic handy but my late buddy's 64 440 had a red one in it. Basically a Day 2 modification. He bought the car new.

I like vintage stuff like that in moderation. Worse case you can always sell it later if you change your mind.

I've a '67 b-body that I replaced the original steering wheel with a metal flake one. I like it. The original was cracked; had gaps where pieces fell out. Plus, the wheel had to be like 18" or more across! Got tired of cranking that big wheel around. Comments I've gotten were positive. Even got a few chuckles from some old-timers.

I know they still make them but I had a green Mooneyes NOS wheel from the 60's I was going to put on my 69 GTS F8 convertible, but it got destroyed in my garage fire. I probably will get a new one and use it one of these days...

The metal flake wheels are pretty cool, but the flakes are much larger then the flakes in your shift knob. I think the metal flake steering wheels are only available in one diameter, if that is a good size for you, go for it.

Well I'm gonna stop by Summit on the way home from work tonight and see what they look like. They don't show the 15" one in stock but they do show the 13" wheel. Hopefully I can get it on the car before the end of summer.

Thanks for the positive replies up

Russ I kinda figured your 63 had one to match the rest of the car laugh2

My old '66 Barracuda had a green one when I got the car in 1980. I put the '66 sport wheel from my Dart GT on it before I even drove the car home...

I thought I had more pics of this car but not on this computer I guess.

Not sure if you zoom in if you can see well enough or not.

Here's an original oval one I got over 30 years ago in an upstate NY yard.
It came off a 61 or so Plymouth, mint condition, saw little use.
