I started out looking for old usa Green Lines, but sure seems to be a hard score. Spoke with a gauge dealer and he didn’t even have any, at least not nice ones. I have a car worthy of nicer stuff for once, so wouldn’t bother me to invest in good ones. Forgot to watch an auction end today and missed a good oil gauge.

I priced out a set of new, made in Mexico. And the cost with senders is 350. Would like to go with electric this time so it will be easier to hide underhood since this is all stock looking. Will stick with the factory tach.

Are those any good? Going with old ones might mean settling for mechanical, which is ok but will stick out. Also want to try something new as I always have run mechanical. Never ran a Stewart Warner anything before.

Or I could just trust the 69 gtx factory gauges will see me through and leave it at that.

Are you making a custom dash or just mounting them under the bezel? I made a custom dash with all (old school) sun gauges. I assume these are not the ones you are looking for?

I also like the Stewart Warner gauges but the lead time was quite long and I wanted the aftermarket gauges in the car for Carlisle.

I like the dash on the 68 & 69 Plymouths, but the lack of an oil pressure gauge makes me nervous

I run aftermarket gauges in all 3 of our Mopars.

A quick story: A month or so ago I was driving the GTX. I thought I heard an odd noise, but thought I must have imagined it. I'm driving along and the aftermarket temp gauge starts to climb rapidly (the car never runs above 200 degrees), the factory temp gauge was running at normal temperature like it always does. When I pulled into the nearest parking lot, the aftermarket gauge hit 215 when I shut it down. Opened the hood, alternator/water pump belt had broke. Thankfully it didn't even boil over before I was able to get it shut off.

Thank The Good Lord for that aftermarket temp gauge! When it hit 215, the factory gauge was still at normal temperature.

I like those autometers, funny you mention those as I looked up their stuff last night and the antique beige would go well with this car I think. 209 bucks and made in USA. I just might do that. You have me wondering what my car has been actually running now.

Just an FYI: We have had several issues with Autometer. They are not the company they once were. All design work is done by consultants and when you have a difficult issue the tech support is knowledge limited. DAMHIK

i have a set of the old glass face green lines and pretty sure they were all mechanical.

For better or worse I ordered a set of autometers with the air core. Time is right. Have the cooling system broke open and they should be here this week. If they end up being junk, then what do we go with?

i have an autometer mechanical temp gauge on one car; sometimes it works, sometimes it don't. i have an autometer electrical temp gauge on another car and it always works.

I run Autometer electric on my 51, haven't had an issue with them. About a year and half old,so they are relatively new manufacture.

I've never had a problem with AutoMeter or their cheaper AutoGage units, though I prefer mechanical.
My thinking is the mechanical is more direct, and independent of a possible electrical issue or affectation.
I also prefer white on black rather than decorative gauges, easier to read at a glance.
But if I had a street rod or something like that, the "in period" gauges are attractive.
For something that has to appear dead stock, I've attached the gauge bracket with Velcro, but frankly it was kinda awkward and I eventually gave up on it.

Guess this is as good as any to try and made in Merika so that works for me. The Stewarts being henche en Mexico and more money just didn’t sit right with me. Piecing together a set of usa ones might take awhile. Will still probably try to do that.

They used to be made here in Springfield Il. I'm sure some of you have them. Some are marked Hobb's division in small lettering at bottom. Closed several years ago and then a few years later tore down a beautiful brick factory warehouse for tax purposes because they couldn't sell it.
