I have a pro street car...Typically I have bias ply all the way around.......But I like the new radials...

Can I run front radials and rear bias ply?

I run these fronts normally

most would recommend radial front and rear . I guess some of that will depend on your mph and the tyre speed rating .
I have seen those MT SR fronts go out of round/ delaminate . Not a big fan of them . I use street radial tyres front though i think a little shorter than yours ,28"? Mine are 185/80R15 also 185R15 (26.7") waiting on the shelf . I am only going 131ish mph max .

Eventually I plan on trying the 28" tall M/T SR Radials. Simply b/c they are the only 28" tall and skinny radial front I know of.
I have M/T Sportsmans up front and they suck as far as street driving goes. It drives so much better w/ a pair of 165R15 radials up front, but they're too short. If I wanted a 25"-26" tall tire, I'd just use a 165R15.

FWIW...I've driven my car w/ every possible combination of radials and bias tires on it. Mixing them is not a problem in my opinion. The bias tires just wander and hunt ruts.

I've been running the SRs for a few years now, front and rear. I was running the Sportsmans before and I prefer the SR. They ride so much better and I'd never go back to the Sportsmans. I've run the front with a bias in the rear (slicks) without any issues although I prefer radial slicks.

I would love to hear an explanation as to how putting a front tire (radial) that tracks straighter going to make a car more unstable because it has a bias ply on the back. I can see why a rear radial/front bias isn't a good match. But the conventional wisdom of never mix radials with bias never seems to come with any evidence or explanation.

I did this once before on one of my street cars.....Spun it 720 after hitting one of those rubber bridge gap things as the radials and bias tires do not react the same to side loads, and they made the car unstable at thruway speeds. This was back in 1988 on my 73 Cuda...

So I am leery of doing this on my prostreet car, but I think they will improve how it drives.

The tallest narrow front radial I've been able to find is a 205/75-15. 27.1" tall.

We put the SR's on the front of the '63 last year and it drives great! We had some old Nexen's volkswagen sized tires that were way too small and not speed rated for what we were doing. ET Street Pro radials on the back and it is smooth as can be!

I tried a friend's Moroso's on the front a few years ago and they drove like dogshit on the street AND at the strip!

i have ran just about any combination of rear tires and rear rim widths, and skinny VW radials on the front [165 and 145 size "shorties"], with both independent front suspension and straight axle setups with ford single buggy spring and parallel leaf spring setups. as long as you have some decent caster, and the toe in matches how the steering is set up [front steer or rear steer], radials on the front work great !
bias ply tires ALWAYS seem to hunt for ruts no matter what size or width you use, although there are a lot of guys who will say otherwise.
i'm not bashing them, however. i'm just stating my own experience over the 50+ years i have been "playing with cars".

now with that said, there was ONE time i REALLY liked the way a bias tire worked on the front of a vehicle.
that was on my charger back in the 72-74 [or so] time frame, and on my 48 plymouth sedan in the 76ish-79 time frame, when i was running Formula One Super Stock bias tires. i had L-60's and M-50's on the rear with 8 & 10" wheels, and F-60's on the front with 6" wheels. those cornered and went down the road GREAT ! however, i don't recall what the alignment specs were i used at that time.
as i said, this is just my personal experience. your mileage will vary.

Yeah but those things are really too skinny for the street and they look stupid on anything like a B-body. I'm always afraid they'll roll off the rim if you were to take a corner at anything over 10 mph !!

Hoosier makes radial front tires that seem nice. They are shorter than advertised once mounted so beware of that.

Just ordered a set....So we will try the radials. New 5" wide Holeshot wheels should be here early next week.. The other tires have never had good street manners, so any improvement.
