I have not looked at it is my wife's aunt's truck. 1992 or 93 318 magnum auto LE.
Leaning towards it being a 1993, if that matters.
An old lady drove back and forth to a close school as she was a teacher, now retired. So goes to food store once every 2 weeks and church on Sunday. Garaged super clean no rust as we live in the south. I have 1st dibs if she ever gets rid of it.
Said on phone last night runs 100% as it should but when you stop at a red light/stop sign motor turns off. Starts right back up and runs fine.
Last week she had to really drive it to get someones, kids, at school and did not do it the 2 days she used it.
Thoughts on what it could be? Anything common problems with these years and drive lines that go bad?

Battery. Most likely cranks slow and dumps the memory on the first start. If it runs ok with no stalling after 20 minutes I would lean on the battery.

Thanks, I will ask her. It will sit a week before she goes to start it again on the norm. She is presently hiding out at someone else's home to ride the hurricane out.

Bad battery on the cold crank will dip the voltage to low and the computer will want a total relearn which results in a needed run cycle before the computer is happy,

If the pintle of the EGR valve is corroded away
so that some exhaust gas keeps flowing when it should not,
the 1992-1995 Magnum V8 engine will stall at stops, then restart.

That's an LA motor not a magnum, The idle motors wear out and start to fail. If you can still keep it running with your foot on the gas that's the problem. I had 90 that had 60k on the clock when i got it, Had over 200 when i sold it. No major issues other than the trans that had to be rebuilt.

Had the same issue with my 98, I drove it to work trying to keep the idle up by putting my foot on the gas even when braking, was not fun…. Changed the battery and all was good. Let us know how it turns out…..

I know the magnums had a problem with the pan on the bottom of the intake leaking causing vacuum leaks and oil issues.

It could be causing a lean condition. Open the throttle blades and look into the bores with a flashlight. If there is excessive oil on the floor of the intake it may need a new pan gasket.

I prefer to replace the factory sheet metal pan with 1/4" thick aluminum plate. I can buy it apiece of aluminum and use the original plate as a template to drill the holes. Best of all, it won't leak.

Several companies sell the prefab plate but it costs more than if I make it myself and it only takes about 20 minutes.

if it is a 92/93 it is a magnum, if it is a 5.2. 92 5.9 was la. 93 5.9 was magnum. 91 5.2/5.9 was la.

This make so much more sense than a bad battery. If the battery was bad, how come it starts fine and restarts just fine after stalling guys? Bad battery would need a jump right?

This one. You may get by with just pulling it out and cleaning it (and the passage in the throttle body) with carb cleaner, if the stalling continues, replace the IAC valve. The one I just purchased for my 94 (92-96 all the same) was 40 something dollars.

my one minivan would start fine, but would stall after pulling out of the driveway, then start fine again. sometimes it would light the check engine light, sometimes not. when scanned, the trouble codes were always goofy things that had nothing to do with driveability. that battery always started that thing, but it was 7-8yrs old. just for the heck of it, i bought a new battery, put the new battery in the wife's car, and put her 4yr old battery in the "bus". no more stalling, no more check engine lights, nothing goofy thereafter.
the battery obviously was the culprit.

I also agree that a bad battery can make Magnum V8 OBD-I systems act “weird” yet the bad battery will start the engine.

Best to check for codes and fuel pressure. I was going to guess crank position sensor for suddenly dying based on my experience with my trucks. Buts I'm guessing. Would expect a intermittent code 11- not always. Mine used to need 30 seconds and then would start again. Sometimes.

If the “sock filter” has become clogged at the bottom of the fuel pump assembly submerged in the gasoline tank,
the vehicle will run fine for a length of time,
then suddenly die when the fuel pump suction above the sock filter “cavitates” which makes fuel pressure and volume pumped fall quite suddenly to zero.

After a few minutes of cooling down, typically 10 to 30 minutes, the fuel pump will be able to run again without cavitation for 1 to 4 hours.
This is more likely to happen in hot weather,
but also with varying gasoline chemistry.

Not necessarily. Late '90's, early 2000's I worked at a Used Car lot. With the Dodge trucks, people would be in and out of them all day, playing with the accessories, starting them, but not running them long enough to charge, and eventually the battery would be low enough that it would still start just fine, but it would stall as soon as put into gear. Charging the battery or swapping in a fresh battery fixed it every time.

In this case starts right back up and runs fine right away.
But mat stop running when truck stops. If so starts right back up.
It will stay in the garage as her, aera was hit very, very hard by Hurracane Ida.
Thanks for the imput.
