Cars built in the USA for international export.... were they ordered cars?

Did some stay in the USA and just sold off the dealer lot???

Thanks.

This is what you are talking about.

Export Tag

I don't know the answer to your question but I personally owned a '68 Charger that had an export plate and there is a '69 Roadrunner in ND that has an export plate. These were attached at the assembly plant so I would assume they were initially intended for overseas sales. Past that, I have no clue.

A lot of export cars actually were ordered by GIs overseas and picked up by them at dealers after they returned to the states. But they are still labeled as export cars since they were ordered overseas.
As far as cars ordered and delivered in other countries, they were also labeled export cars but I think there was some variation in the delivery process depending on where they went. I think some might have even been partially assembled overseas. Others would have had speedometers in kilometers.

What year was it Tex?

Some have it on the FT and even the Door Vin Sticker. And a sticker near the upper door hinge.
