Kind of beats the original record of 11-days eh? Erwin George "Cannon Ball" Baker In 1915, Baker drove from Los Angeles to New York City in 11 days, 7 hours and fifteen minutes in a Stutz Bearcat, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erwin_Baker(and yes he was a motorcycle rider/racer )

As impressive as this is, its only a matter of time before we have a very bad outcome with innocents, and then the party is over.
Think Le Mans 1955.
"The death toll led to an immediate temporary ban on motorsports in France, Spain, Switzerland, West Germany, and other nations, until racetracks could be brought to a higher safety standard. In the United States, the American Automobile Association (AAA) dissolved their Contest Board that had been the primary sanctioning body for motorsport in the US (including the Indianapolis 500) since 1904. It decided that auto racing detracted from its primary goals," Wiki

Where do you get the linkage between a sanctioned sponsored race event vs. what amounts to illegal street racing? Are they going to make it more illegal? Ohio gonna institute the death penalty for speeding?

The most recent one I heard about was during the height of the pandemic and he did it in a rented mustang and averaged 108.
I know the guys in the mercedes had a top speed of 193 during there run IIRC.

The most recent one I heard about was during the height of the pandemic and he did it in a rented mustang and averaged 108. That's the last one I heard about as well. He gutted the interior and installed two extra fuel tanks in it. When he got to California, he left the extra tanks there and drove home. He reinstalled the interior and turned it back in to the rental company.

Where do you get the linkage between a sanctioned sponsored race event vs. what amounts to illegal street racing? You are assuming there is logical linkage at play. Maybe if you studied the immediate and long term effects the LeMans crash had on the worldwide motor world, you would not ask the question. Its all about "image". A 150mph? modern Detroit muscle car tee boning a filled school bus will not only be horrific but chilling, and the likely result maybe in government required manufacturer installed speed limiter on all new cars, for example. My life would be very content if I never heard of another cross country open road record.

You are assuming he had no "assistance". These guys I suspect are well funded, and aircraft spotters and decoy vehicles, third party strategic break downs, etc are not out of the question.
IMO, its doable, but not for me.

IMO, its doable, but not for me. He's right, if the other records average 108 there's no way anyone did it averaging 150, that would mean he'd be north of 200 for hours at a time lol

Visit the VinWiki youtube channel.
They go into depth on a couple of these cars.
The Mustang was actually a rental car that the guy later ended up buying.
The Mercedes was in a pretty bad accident and crushed the rearend. The guy had to buy it back from the insurance auto auction.

He's right, if the other records average 108 there's no way anyone did it averaging 150, that would mean he'd be north of 200 for hours at a time lol I think the 150 number is only a confirmed top speed, somebody in translation conflated that to avg mph, which is kinda obvious to me false, in that 150 avg mph over say 2800 miles is approx 18 hours, not the just under 24 hrs in this story, and why I disregarded it. My contention still stands.
