The motor specs, .030+ 440, speedpro forged Pistons, E-Street heads out of the box, 9.25-1. MP .528 cam, 1-3/4" Doug's pickup headers with 3x18" collectors. Dyno is my L&S, calibrated before the pulls.
M-1 single plane with Carter CS 750
Weiand TunnelRam with 2 Carter CS 750's
Chrysler ShortRams cc with same 2 carbs as above.
The carbs were dialed in for each intake.
As expected the Weiand made the most hp, M-1 came in 2nd with the vintage shortrams trailing.
The numbers;
M-1 455hp@5200&507.9ftlbs@4400
Weiand TunnelRam 469.3hp@5450&542.9ftlbs@4000
Shortrams 429.2hp@5150&543.6ftlbs@3800

Now the rest of the story, the shortrams made the most torque and had the best torque average, 512.4ftlbs@2500 and just kept climbing till 3800.
The M-1 was at 451.1ftlbs@2600
The Weiand TunnelRam was 469.8ftlbs@2600
I've installed the motor in my old W-150 with the Shortrams, should be a kick ass pickup motor.

Which version of the long rams do you have, long divider, medium length divider or the short dividers?
I haven't heard of "short rams" before tonight confused

Cab, they are the shortrams set with the runner dividers only going about halfway up the port runner. I sent you a pic of it to your wansnet account Cab. Never did figure out how to post pictures here after the change.

I would enjoy seeing the pictures of the intake just to get a visual as I cannot picture it in my cranium. Question...quickd are you still running/driving your truck with the tunnel ram and 2 thermoquads? That has always been incedibly cool to see

Yep, still got the old Wreck with the TunnelRam and Thermoquad, it doesn't get out much. Been busy with a 318 and a turbo for a while. Finally decided to ditch the 318 and move to a 440. The initial plan was to dyno the motor naturally aspirated and then install the turbo. I fell in love with these shortrams and for now that's what it's going to run with.

How about a turbo to forcefeed each side of the short ram?😁

quick d are you running one turbo or a pair? In my minds eye I see two snails pumping into a cross section up to the short branches. Could use reversed exhaust manifolds maybe? Other wise use Shortie big block headers turned upside down. That would put the turbo very close but maybe cooking everything up top?

The turbos would negate the design.

If you are looking for pics of the long and short ram -

Thanks for the picture! There is a lot of confusion out there about the long rams and the short rams and people assume that you are speaking about the crossram featured only on the max wedge motors. The ShortRam was first available on the 60' 300F as an option and was rated at 400hp. The last offering was the 64' 300 K and it was rated at 390hp.

there was a paper out there at one time showing how to make a long ram into a short ram.
welding was required of course.
the problem these days with buying a setup like that, is [almost] everyone loses the pieces that cover the crossover port in the heads, allowing the intakes to bolt to opposing heads. those parts were just cut out between the bolt holes with a band saw, making the cut pieces unique to each manifold. at one time, there was someone reproducing those pieces and they were slightly oversize, allowing trimming at the bolt holes to fit the manifolds on hand. i don't know if they are still available today.
the balance tubes also somehow disappear as well.
they are a neat induction system.
i wonder how much torque a 500 plus cube engine could make with a short ram setup at, say, 2500 to 4500-5000 rpm, and let the horsepower fall wherever it does.
that might be fun in a 2500lb hotrod with big tires and a 3.23-3.54/3.55 rear gear. [like my "perpetual" project]

I saw the paper you are speaking of. I hate to see any of these manifolds butchered. That's why I haven't opened these up for Thermoquads.

When testing the Shortrams, (and the other manifolds) the cam was installed 2° advanced. For the last few pulls I backed the cam up to 116° as the factory cam was installed 2-4° retarded to help time the pressure wave at the valve fill the cylinders better. Well that was a lot of work for nothing as it killed the hp and torque.

I would have to argue on that one. I would love to see what two small turbos on mild boost would do. Quick spool up, run e85, no intercooler. Say 7 psi?

When I do a turbo again it will be with a single 4bbl. Much easier to plumb. I've got everything fabricated just to bolt it together. The next motor will have better rods in it, this one still has LY rods.

Very neat, thanks for sharing the results.

What turbo will you be using? (assuming different between the 318 and 440)

As of right now it's going to be naturally aspirated. Down the road I'll screw another 440 together with a better bottom end and try the GT-45.

Would you expect similar torque advantage with the short rams v/s the others with a small RV camshaft?
