that shield doesn't do a very good job of stopping convertor bolts........seriously that shield should be trimmed anywhere the convertor bolts will pass by. Also if you have one of those shim/gaskets between the starter and trans, that should be trimmed as well.

It's bent/warped that's what cause the bolt to hit it. Trimming it will only make it weaker bend it back to straight where it won't be at risk of getting hit.You may have to put in some relief cuts in it to compensate for the stretched metal.

They were an issue years back ( 60-80's), seemed more so on small blocks if I remember correctly. I ran a lot of cars without them wink beer

Mine doesn't have one. Partially because I didn't have a 727 when I switched over only 904 ones and they don't fit. Also because the one I did end up getting was the taller kind that tends to be warped in and hit those bolts after it's installed. Could have cut it and maybe I did I can't remember but it's not on there.

I have two, the other one being taller, and not warped like this one. Thinking I may either cut out the warped one, or go without. Between my headers and "custom" trans lines, a stock unit needs to be bowed some to get it in place. Maybe I could fit a piece of plexiglass and watch the goodies turn round and round.

Yea, and the plexiglass one wouldn't put up as much resistance when the bolt heads hit it the next time.

Given the options, I think I would just leave it off.

Andy sold a nice powder coated shield at one time... at least I think I got from him, don't see it on his site anymore though...

I did not. I have two, one that was on the 727 that came out, and one on the 727 I had rebuilt. Don't recall which I used. What does the one I need look like?

hi
look at where the converter bolts have hit the shied you posted .

the correct shield will be offset here for bolt head clearance .

you do have the correct flex plate to converter bolts i hope , not just regular bolts ?

I had to remove mine because of under hard acceleration, it would touch the oversized converter bolts and make noise.
I havent gotten around to addressing it yet.

Pretty sure I have the correct converter bolts. Had a pack from ATi, and a pack from Mopar Performance. Thin heads.

You guys do know that there are two different sizes, correct?
12 inch and 11 inch converter shields are different scope
Same thing on the converters having 5/16 bolts compared to the ones with 7/16 inch bolts shruggy

I ran my 72 D200 without one for many years, no issues. My 68 Dart doesn't have one either.

They sure help if you live on, or drive on a gravel road though. That open bell does a great job at scooping up and collecting dirt grit, small stones, and gravel dust, without the shield.

Cab, from the pic, it appears I may have the smaller converter. ATi Streetmaster is what I remember. Even with the wrong shield, it worked fine until I removed it again and flexed it to reinstall around. the trans lines. Ray Barton said this was the converter I needed, but he never saw the trans or shield.
