Is there a harness tape that is made in the U.S., close/same as factory or better? I am going to be doing some wiring and would like to wrap it to look close or the same as factory. I don't mind paying more for Made in the USA.

I bought a roll of friction tape at our local farm store. Don't remember where it was made, or even the name on the package (wasn't any other choice, and the original packaging is long gone). I think I paid $7 for the rather large roll in their electrical isle. It sure looks a lot like the stuff from the earlier Mopar wire harness. I've used about 1/2 the roll now, it actually works very well.

I thought I'd have an answer for you, but when I went out to see what brand I have, there was no label. Hopefully you get an answer!

Are you looking for the cloth or plastic (non-adhesive) type?

I used this when I rewired my 51 a year and a half ago. No idea where it's made though.

Just whatever is close to factory in 1970.

Thanks for all the replies up there is a sea of choices on Amazon with a wide range of prices for possibly the same stuff. The inline tube stuff which looks to be more on the non-cloth side seems close to factory.

1970 would be non adhesive vinyl. FYI, Stretch it a bit while wrapping, when a the end of a wrap, you can either tie it off in a knot or use a bit of shrink tube ( be careful with the heat ) wink beer

I bought some cheap electrical tape a few years ago.

Glue was pretty much non existent so I have been using it for friction tape.

You might have the same luck buying super cheap junk tape and it's cheaper than $7 a roll for friction tape.

I wish it had a brand on it but it doesn't say anything except UL Listed inside the core.

Just a thought

That's correct. Sometimes the ends were "finalized" with a narrow strip of cloth adhesive tape.

3M makes a really good tape but the parts stores around here don't carry it. However the local Ace hardware does. Super 77 I believe. Way better the the junky parts store stuff.

I use a cloth Harness tape from a company called Tesa. Its OEM on some german cars and it works very well, it also comes off clean if you ever remove it.

I've used the friction stuff before with electrical tape at the end to hold it from getting undone.
Normal electrical tape ends up turning into a sticky mess if it's near engine heat but works anywhere else.

X2 on the Tesa cloth, 3m77 turns into a sticky mess under the hood, fantastic in your house. Best to use plain no glue tape with Tesa on the ends.

There are also several different self fusing tapes available for stopping the ends from unraveling. maost are available at the local home depots, lowes, etc. They work extremely well wink See link

We used to use that when I overhauled antenna in the Navy.

Works great, but looks nothing like stock. Also have no idea how it would hold up in an underhood environment.

FWIW a good brand of self fusing silicone tape will hold up to 500 degree heat, but as you say it looks wrong. I like it for some stuff.

I have a roll of the harness non adhesive tape. I have had it for a long time. Plymouth rubber co. Will that work? I think I used a small amount from it.
