Rhino, I think you might be onto something, all the ones I saw today in a huge collection with the said tags were 70 and later. Why not all then?

OHIO, USA	I know that on one certain motorcycle VIN there were asterisks at the beginning and end as sort of security so no additional characters could be place in those positions, wonder if that was the same reason for the asterisks on those VIN tags???? Note: two of the asterisk VIN tags I posted are "B" Hamtramck cars.................and the other has an asterisk where the assembly plant character would be...............and taken from the Hamtramck-Historical website.......so far that only makes one assembly plant using asterisks.......just noting this. skdmark member S Joined: Sep 2009 Posts: 117 SE-WI	For a 71 Challenger it will be "B" Hamtramck. LA was the only other plant for e-bodies and it was in 70 only.

Mike A majority of manufacturers back in the day used the asterisks on their tags as "security asterisks" to define the beginning and or ending of a VIN sequence, in current production years the number of asterisks and or their location depending on the manufacture denote US, Canadian or Mexican production
